What Do You Want?

BEVERLY HILLS (MI) -- What is your most fervent wish for the University of Dayton Men’s Basketball program under Archie Miller?

A National Championship?

An Atlantic 10 Championship?

Consistent, continued success?

World domination?

I think it is helpful to take a step back and look at what our hopes and dreams were for the Red and Blue in the past decades.

For Flyer fans like my brother Bud in the mid-Sixties it was just getting past the Sweet 16. Twice the Flyers won their 1st round game but then faltered in what was then then just a 32 team field. Of course, they did just that in 1967, making it all the way to the Finals.

In the Seventies, it was one more Donald Smith jumper in the three overtime loss to Bill Walton and UCLA in 1974.

In the Eighties it was some way, somehow for Roosevelt Chapman and Company to get past Patrick Ewing and Georgetown in 1984 to advance to the Final Four.

In the early Nineties it was having Norm Grevey available when Negele Knight and the Flyers faced off vs. Arkansas in the 2nd round. Later that decade, it was for the Jim O’Brien-led teams to win a game – any game! – as the program floundered into its darkest days.

At the turn of the century, it was to have OP get the guys past an upstart Tulsa team. Later it was for BG to harness all that athleticism into a consistent NCAA caliber team.

Now look where we are:

-- Atlantic 10 Co-Champs
-- #1 seed in the A-10 Tournament
-- A lock for the NCAA Big Dance
-- Everybody except Dyshawn Pierre back next year and Archie will add transfer Josh Cunningham and frosh recruit Trey Landers

Ladies and germs, these are the good old days! Enjoy the ride and let’s see how far Archie can take them.

it's important to reflect back , so we don't get caught up in overexcitement and hyped up expectations. On the other hand - LOOK where this Program has come in a mere 3 years (and really 10-15 , giving some cred to BG and Oliver Purnell).

It's blossomed to a truly respectable, respected happier place. We can compete with almost any top 50 team , and have won our lion's share the past 5 to 10 years, especially the past 3 years under Archie.

My goal is the NCAA every 8 of 10 years. 2 to 3 A10 Championships a decade. Be in the top 3 of the A10 just about every year. Of course you have to expect a year or two of injuires or poor chemistry. It happens.

Just hope we stay in this Gonzaga/Butler stratosphere the next 5 to 10 years so we can enjoy some top level basketball, hard fought games and some quality victories.

Onward and Upward. Let's Get em!!!

I agree continued consistent, but always improving play. I would truly love to see a final four appearance. That will keep us pulling in the type of players we need.

Yet, the thing I might want most is to get a coach almost as good as Archie once he leaves...which I hope is about 25 years from now.

Go Flyers!

Making the ncaa tourney 8/10 years is great. The goal is always to win the national championship if you are making the ncaa tourney regularly. It isn't reasonable to put that expectation on Archie and his staff but deep down that is what Archie wants. And it is achievable because bball only needs one special player on a very good team. Just need to find that DWade who wants to go on a special ride at UD
