Duquense Game
Tonight at 7PM at the Arena, 2nd to last home game.
After last night, everyone should be in a good mood, so come out and support them.
Will be a tough game without Jenna, and Duquense looking to avenge their loss to us at home.
But I believe...Go Flyers!

Scaife banks in a three at q end. But what a bad soother missed at least 9 in a row before that. She needs to only drive inside or let a more competent shooter take outside shots. Needs coaching badly.

Andi C trying her best to get Duq back in the game. Chucks a bad three, misses a bunny, gets backdoored badly. Overall a disappointment of a career. Everyone thought we we were getting a real player when we recruited her.

Let em right back in. Can't finish inside and defense struggling with SGA on bench. Harris and Wilmouth are terrible with the ball inside. Kelley is going to have be more agressive.

Building the lead back and Dennis starts impersonating Andi C. You don't have to shoot every time you touch the ball girls.

Dequense game - rebounding
Another game we seem to be winning due to rebounding margin and other teams poor shooting.
Hope Austria is not wore out before Jenna comes back.

Shauna said in post game interview they are told if they are open they should shoot. Remember how Lauren struggled earlier in the year, well shooters shoot and that is how get their rhythm back. Andi and Maddy can hit those treys, they have done it in games before, need pt to get your shots to fall.

So what's your point who said anything against Lauren. Negative comments I read were about other players and the start of the game.it's obvious you have a mad crush on Lauren. No one is denying Lauren had a great game. As a team we are not yet where we need to be. Hopefully Jenna will be back soon.

I have no idea if they make those shots in practice. If they do make them I would also tell them to shoot during the game
it was a fun fathers daughters night to watch as a bunch of young girls helped the cheerleaders, and some of them had their fathers lifting them
I thought that Maddy played hard and physical. You obviously want her to make those shots but I didn't think she hurt. I thought it was a step in the right direction
The playing time has helped Lauren, she can spell Kelley and Jenna now.
There appeared to be several possible recruits behind the bench tonight

There is more than stats, coaches see them in practice and can tell who shooters are. Jaya isn't hitting her shots yet either, but I am seeing improvement by a lot of our bench players. We need more than just our starters and you improve with quality playing time.

Still need to do something about attendance. We will not lead the A10 this year in attendance. SLU is ahead of us.
Did look like a fun night with dad's and daughters. Only 2200 plus

My point is there's been plenty of unfair criticism of Lauren and I want to throw that back in some peoples faces. Crush? Come now that is ridiculous. St. Louis won at LaSalle to stay one back.

Lot of positives tonight but we are still a long way from great and in desperate need of better play from a lot of kids as evidenced by the GW beating, being outside of any consideration for an at large bid, and perhaps a 25% chance of winning our tourney and getting back to the NCAA, to say nothing of the need to prepare for the loss off maybe our two best players in SGA and KA.

Wow how mature to want to throw it back in some peoples faces. Every player on this team has criticized at one time or another. The problem with LC early on was she was expected to be a contributor after being the pointy guard for last year. Didn't happen and the criticism was warranted then as are the props she gets now for stepping up her game.
Yes crush when you only defend LC beyond any other player. You are extremely sensitive regarding anything that is not positive about LC, and it shows. Kelley and Jenna have come under scrutiny several times but no big defense of them or any other player. Kelley is my favorite mainly for her love of defense. She is defensive minded and focused 1st and foremost, scoring secondly and running point 3rd. But even Kelley has her moments and warts and sometimes a little tough love from fans, coaches and players are warranted and go a long way getting them back to form.
Personally I like the improvements I'm seeing from our subs. Even if they aren't scoring but are contributing on rebounding and defense it all counts toward a win. Like UDBrian said, Maddy was playing hard, it showed as she got more playing time today due to rebounding etc. Her shots were short hitting the side or front of the rim, an indication of legs not being used to being out on the court, again court time helps them all.

We are a work in progress as has been stated from the beginning of the season, many were stating we'd not even make .500 yet here we are still one game ahead in first place. That is a testimony to Shauna Green and the players for sticking with it during trying times especially when their best basketball is till ahead of them.
Our road record has been very good and hopefully will continue at Fordham. We took SLU down at their place and should hold serve at the arena, but we have to expect SLU to come out with the kind of energy GW did and be ready to play hard from tip to end. Nice being in the drivers seat but we have the target on our back which Shauna was hoping they wouldn't have yet. But thats what happens when you go on an 11 game win streak. Time for another win streak. Go Flyers.

At the chalk Talk tonight, when asked about Jenna's return, Shauna mentioned that she is utilizing the Alter-G, as have other members of the team. I know it was donated first and foremost for Josh's rehabilitation and I was curious if other teams had access to it. I thought they probably did, but wasn't certain. Shauna wasn't certain when she would return, but certain that she would. Said it was not a season ending type of injury.

Just a couple of thoughts on the game
WHEN the subs get into the game they want to impress and the most obvious way to do that is to score. it might be tough to convince players that the most important thing to help the team is defense, rebounding and taking care of the ball
i am pretty sure that one of the assistants told Maddy she was doing a good job during a time out and maddy looked surprised hearing that you did a good job without scoring might give you a different outlook. I also thought that maddy has lost some weight
If the team could make half of their five footers and layups they would be really tough to beat. harris has some really quick feet to create shots but has trouble finishing. saisha also had trouble finishing
really impressed with Layfields improvement, she is now a GOOD shooter and becoming a good all around player. There is still plenty of room for more improvement
I enjoyed the video of Shauna and players talking about how their fathers had coached them growing up. That might have inspired some of the fathers in the crowd. I think Jenna said that her father had been coaching her since she was four. Nice job
KUDOS to the couple doing the chicken dance if you are reading
Hope someone has info on possible recruits at the game. ud has enough scholarships to bring in two or three players from the same juco team.

According to the Atlantic 10 attendance stats Dayton is first in home attendance with 2651 (26509 total) and Saint Louis is second with 1798 (23370 total) -- and SLU has had 3 more home games than Dayton!

Other stats are clearly this year so I don't have any reason to doubt the attendance numbers.
SLU had 'only' 1967 attend the Dayton game in St Louis -- most folks likely stayed away due to weather.
http://www.slubillikens.com/ViewCont...ENT_ID=1984764
SLU has had some nice attendance numbers for individual games (two 6000+, one 3500+).

Looks like a great machine. YOu can exercise without stressing knees or shins. They said it is excellent for weight loss also. Last week it was reported that her knee would be checked out in another week which would have been yesterday

It was my memory that Lauren was not only shooting poorly at the start of the year, but the last few games, so I looked it up. She has got to be on the first team of all-time streak shooters at UD. The previous three games to last night she was 3-22. The three games before that 16-26. Overall she is at 34%, and 35% from three. Our team shoots 39%, and 34% from three. Lauren is an average shooter, who goes on extreme streaks. We have to hope that she feels it against the strong opponents, and on nights that others are not scoring.

Lauren needs space to get off her shot. Has to get her feet set. Duquesne did not do a good job to keep her under pressure.

That is true, and why I think jayla Scaife is the only one who can create her own shot an why Shauna let's her keep shooting to develop that skill an get bether confidence.
Other than that I too feel she hasn't seen a shot she doesn't like. Freshman mistakes, hopefully she hone the skill an be more a complete team player.

Duqesne had to choose to pressure Kelley or Lauren. Had they pressured Lauren Kelley would have burnt them, IMHO.

I thought the key to not letting that 21 point lead completely slip away was the play of Maddy Dennis. Duquesne cut it to 7 and she entered the game. She played hard and looked good with everything except her shot (even then she was open on all of her shots). I thought she did a great job on the boards and defensively on their bigs inside. When Saicha went out they started pounding it down low and I thought Maddy did a great job. Alex Harris too.
We know Lauren can shoot the rock, but she drove to the hoop and in the paint several times. That left handed kiss off the glass while getting bumped was beautiful.
I know most of you will disagree with me, but when Jenna is ready, she comes off the bench. Lauren has helped carry us since she has been out and IMHO she deserves to continue starting.
I am excited to see what we do against Fordham and SLU. We laid an egg at GW and we responded with an incredible run after the score was 8-6 against a decent Duquesne team. I think the confidence blossomed and we took off.
I think Shauna Green should be the coach of the year in the A-10. For stepping in and doing what she has done. Her intensity and commitment to the program is evident. I kind of wish those other two recruits wouldn't have jumped ship so fast and waited to see how it went, but in a way I am glad they did. There are still several top 100 players still out there and if we can get one or two look out next year!

Lauren has answered the call. But Jenna has carried us from the beginning and will start.
It's not Jenna lost her starting position to poor play. And Kelley is an experienced senior. Lauren will two more years to show her ability.

If you watched the GDub game - and our pathetic offense in that game - you will understand why Burdette will start when ready and fit. Will she be back Sunday?

[QUOTE=Cardsflyer;488148I know most of you will disagree with me, but when Jenna is ready, she comes off the bench. Lauren has helped carry us since she has been out and IMHO she deserves to continue starting.

True, last game Lauren carried us. I pointed this out before, the three previous games she shot 3-22. Lauren is an okay player, but Jenna is on a different planet than Lauren driving to the basket, distributing, leadership and defense. Lauren is a better shooter from two point range, and there is only a one point difference on three point percentage.

I like lauren's improvement but there is no way she is close to Jenna Agree 100% with Jack
If she plays like that in the tournament ud will have a chance to win

In Jenna's first game or two back, I could see her coming off the bench because it may not be medically prudent for her to play 35-37 minutes. Hopefully if not for St. Louis, that can be the case for the tourney. Three games in three days - can't ride Jenna with lots of minutes. Lauren has done an excellent job playing point guard and keeping turnovers down - ok since some people think I'm the president of her fan club - I'm just pointing out the positive here since she was pounded so unfairly eariler in the year.

good point on limiting jenna's minutes. lauren played well on wednesday and certainly deserves credit for that. she lead ud just as kelley did the previous wednesday. i hope more than one person is scoring tomorrow or it could be a rough game. layfield is shooting well so i would try to get her more good shots maybe run some pick and rolls with her and lauren or her and kelley. not having a big who can pop outside and hit 3's really hurts

I agree with most of what you said. I thought maddy played well on defense and when she had a chance she GRABBED the rebound instead of tapping it around. Even if she doesn't score a lot she can help the team playing like that consistently.
I'm sure Shauna and company have been working very hard to bring in additional recruits for next year. She has shown herself a very capable coach and the players love her. I don't follow the A10 enough to know if there are some teams that have greatly overachieved that might prevent her from winning coach of the year

Can't think of any that would come close to what Shauna has achieved in such a short time
