VCU Game
Looking anything but mediocre, as our ladies get off to a 13-3 lead in the first 6 minutes. Defense is awesome.

19-18 at the end of quarter one. UD playing some awful defense in the last few minutes.

We are getting ourrebounded by 8 and have given up 12 offensive rebounds. All our size advantage, but such poor hands, blockouts and effort.

But when you bring up the rebounding you have to consider SGA has been in foul trouble for most of the first half. I don't see it as a lack of effort. Great job off the bench by Andi, Lauren and Jordan and doing a good job of taking care of the basketball today. I do credit VCU - the Rams are playing as well as they can and I'd think they'd be discouraged with SGA out they aren't closer at the half.

Halftime and up 37-27. Being out-boarded by 9. Cannatelli and Wilmoth lead in scoring with 6 each.

Up 37 to 27 I really like that Andi and Wilmoth are getting playing time and have 10 points between them.

Up by 37-27 at the half on great shooting, 52%, and 6-9 on threes. VCU is only at 29%. Rebounding continues to falter. Grant only played 8 minutes because of 2 fouls and had 3 rebounds. We gave up 14 offensive rebounds, and are down 9 rebounds. Wilmoth played 12 minutes with 1 rebound, Andi 5 minutes with no rebounds and Harris 13 minutes with 6 rebounds.

If Harris stands on defense with her hands down and body relaxed one more time, I will scream. Coach needs to pull her and teach her a lesson.
What a difference Jenna makes on this team. Our two guards are studs!

I saw the lack of boards for Andi and Wilmoth, good thing they made some shots. Hard to believe you can give up that many offensive rebounds and have a ten point lead at the half

62-47 after three quarters. Still shooting well at 55% and 8-14 from three. Our D holding VCU to 39%. We only have 6 turnovers!

I didn't think Andi's name is hard to pronounce but neither announcer gets it right - same with Scaife. Good thing about SGA foul trouble - she will be fresh for tomorrow. Like to see this one put away early in the fourth so the starters can rest. 62-47

Rough fourth quarter for Jayla and the drought scoring only 3 points in the first 6 plus minutes meant starters had to play most of the way.

Shooting is in Jayla's head, 1-7 shooting and 1-6 on free throws.

Shauna made a comment about how important it was for them to get a couple of days rest and then added 'especially for jenna'
One down two to go. Plenty of time to rest for tomorrow's game, three hours more than SLU has. LEt's hope they lose or at least have a stressful game, lol

At the half - SLU 31, Fordham 28.
SLU winning helps our RPI (played them twice) and they have a better record than Fordham should we play them tomorrow. However, having to beat SLU for a third time scares me.
Any preferences?

Fordham beat us pretty good at their place. Jenna was out and LC was totally ineffective. I think we have a better chance against them. Kemp and K Stipanovich are more dangerous.

It is St.L. Kemph and Stip go for 45! We have to slow them. They get ~ 2/3 of the points.

SLU wins 68-58. Flyers play Billikens tomorrow at 11:00AM.
I think a lot of this game will depend on how it is called. If we can keep SGA in the game we will have a better chance. Our strength- inside defense - matches up well against SLU strength - inside offense.
Still, i consider it a tossup.

We match up much better with SLU. Fordham is like GW: limits possessions, defensively tough to break down, make the game ugly and force you to be technically good. They put a ton of pressure on our guards and ball pressure on our guards is one of our bigger weaknesses.
SLU's strength is inside, but our defensive strength is inside. SLU's guards dont scare me all that much because I think our guards are good matchups for them as they can get into the lane more easily. Mostly will come down to rebounding and turnovers. Win the battle on the boards and have more assists than TOs and we win.
Any fleeting chance of an at-large requires a win.

UD has what I consider a minor advantage. SLU's starters played between 33 and 39 minutes. Ud had an extra three hours of rest. They should be in good enough shape that it won't be an issue until sunday but who knows
I wonder what they drink because I would be drinking a lot of spark

STL big girl is not very physical, so a better matchup for us. Our guards are better in total than their guards, so better matchup for us. The question today is will Kelley, Jenna and Lauren shoot well? Jenna looked like Brian Roberts yesterday, and I hope we see that today.

Those five games Jenna didn't play I think helps with her being the freshest starter out their both teams. May have been a blessing in disguise.

While looking for an article on today's game in the Richmond Times, I came across this on GG Goodhope.
Good for VCU giving her a 2nd chance and very good for her on making the most of it.
