Butler Helps VBall
A-10 adds Butler University.
http://www.daytonflyers.com/news/ind...rticle_id=8834
This program will help the A-10 volleyball rankings. They have had a solid program for several years now. Joining the A-10 should also help Butler vball continue to grow and get better recruits.
Dayton, X and SLU's programs are all on solid footing, but after that it's tough. I wanted someone from the Duquesne, Charlotte, Temple mix to move into the upper ranks, but it's been hot and cold from year to year. Butler comes with a successful program with NCAA experience. Dayton is clearly still the cream of the crop, but improved conference strength from any source is welcome and Butler will help.

We no longer need to concern ourselves with Temple . . .

Amazing how far Temple and GW have fallen. They used to be nationally competitive programs. A testament to just how consistent UD volleyball is. I make the same analogy with UD womens soccer. Other A10 programs have risen to the top, fallen to the bottom, and risen and fallen again in the time-span that Dayton has remained on top.

The Temple program had a good run for a while but it was unsustainable. They were able to succeed with a coach who could recruit players to attend Temple from China. It's just so tough to maintain a strong vball program on the east coast at the moment with the amount and quality of coaches and players. I don't think the Butler vball program is great simply based on the team we faced a few years ago in the NCAA tournament, but merely Butler's location in the mid-west will give the A-10 a more consistently strong conference.
I think the addition will help UD geographically. It should decrease travel overall and possible create another in conference rival due to the proximity. If I was still a student a road trip to Butler is sure a lot easier than to cross both Ohio and Pennsylvania to watch the flyers in Philly.
I would assume this would change the travel partners. Dayton/ Xavier and Fordham/ Rhode Island should still stay the same, but you would have to imagine Butler would replace Duquesne as the other team to play during the Saint Louis weekend. Would La Salle and Duquesne create a Trans-Pennsylvania weekend, or would La Salle and GW now become travel partners since they are pretty close.

UD is going to be a force in the near future if our tremendous recruits pan out. We can exceed what has been accomplished in the past five years. We will need some competition in the A10
Temple had one great outside hitter that was good enough to just about beat ten of the A10 teams by herself.
