2017 Non-Conference: SEMO
Following up on a discussion in a thread below, I have it on fairly good authority that the Flyers will be facing the Southeast Missouri State (SEMO) Redhawks in one of their 2017 non-conference tilts.
I'm assuming this will be a home game for SEMO which is located in Cape Girardeau, MO. The Redhawks are a scholarship school playing in the Ohio Valley Conf., and finished this past season with a 3-8 record (3-5 in the OVC). Over the past 3 seasons, the Redhawks non-conf. schedule has included the likes of: Kansas (2014; lost 34-28); Missouri (2015; lost 34-3); and, Memphis (2016; lost 35-17).
Should be a great challenge for the Flyers.
Note: Presumably, the Flyers 2 other non-conf. games will be Robert Morris and DuQuesne (i.e., no Youngstown St. in 2017).

If I had to choose a trip to SEMO or YSU, I would definitely lean toward SEMO. YSU may have a good atmosphere but the city of Youngstown doesn't offer a whole lot otherwise.
Marist already posted their schedule and they are headed to Dayton on 11/4.

I'm hoping for a NC trip too, Gramps. Wishing there is a FL swing on the schedule, though.
More importantly, when is family weekend so we can get a jump on hotel reservations?

I think I saw somewhere that family weekend is earlier this year. Weekend of 9/15-9-17. I got that info from one of the hotels.

According to the UD website, Family weekend is 9/15-17. If my predicted schedule is correct, that would be Duquesne. I would have preferred a big crowd for San Diego.

Here is where I find scheduling fascinating. Holy Cross (FCS - Patriot League) already has their schedule posted for 2021.

I agree NEO, also saw on pflboard the PFL vs Ivy matchups for the next couple of years. Scratch my head wondering why Flyers don't want to up their profile by getting in on that. USD coming to Princeton this year then Harvard the following year. Stetson, Jacksonville, Marist all on Ivy schedule. Some of the Ivy's have open dates in 2018,2019 maybe somebody with some juice can get the AD involved. Understand the geographic recruiting and scheduling RMU and Duquesne but maybe that 3rd OOC would be great opportunity. USD obviously sees the value.

NY: I have a hunch that you'll get your wish in 2018 and 2019. If I'm right (and if your user name reflects where you live), one of the games will be nearby.

I guess we don't need to plan a trip to Cape Girardeau (at least this year), do we FI?

Neo: Agree...I'm very surprised that SEMO agreed to come to Dayton. This may signal that Dayton will be heading to the Cape in 2018. Otherwise, pretty much as predicted.
Also, I really wish they could find a way to have the open week in the middle of the season. This past year the open week was the last week of the regular season, and in 2015 the open week was Week 2. It would be so much better for the team to have an extra week to re-charge and recover somewhere in the middle of the season.

Agree FI on the bye week. I do not believe there has ever been one in the middle of the season when it is needed. We actually were open the first week a couple of seasons ago! Also, I wish the PFL would wake up and schedule the Flyer - USD toward the end of the season. It has been for the 'ship the last two years and playing at the start of the season does no one, including the league, any good. At least push it into the last 3 games of the year. Here is hoping 2017 brings another PFL title!

Well, the schedule has been posted. Much sooner than say a decade ago but just enough delay for some Priders to search around and develop it from other school's. That's always fun!
As far as making sense out of the order of opponents or a stupid off week the way they have been falling , there really isn't any sense so improvements on those may be decades away.
Finally, it was great to be fooled by the anticipated SEMO game schedule. We used too much common sense to assume it would be an away game. UD football can fool!

Probably not next year either. For a long time now, the third game has always been musical chairs. I don't recall having a home-home series game for a while now. Possibly Central State 6-8 years ago was it. Too far back to remember.
Other than Davidson and possibly Drake, no memorable road trips this year. Last year looked to be an expensive year for the parent's. Although money cannot buy the memories made. Gotta spend it sometime.
Glad to see Gramps will get to see his Flyers in person. It's probably been at least three years going without.

AP: Although I'm the one who suggested the possibility of a home/home w/SEMO, I think you're probably right. In fact, as I alluded to in a post above, I have some reason to believe that the 3rd non-conf. game in 2018 will be an Ivy. Seriously...I'm not Lion (see what I did there).

Excited to see SEMO coming to Dayton. That is my wedding anniversary and I was dreading missing the game. Now, I can go to the game and still do what I need for the wife.
Go Flyers!

Have some new info on 2018 and beyond. Apparently, the Flyers will be visiting Cape Giradeau in 2018 (and possibly 2019). Looks like my prediction of an Ivy in the near-term was off. Sorry NYFlyer.

Oh well Just have to move the tailgate to Cape Giradeau! There's always the Marist game back east unless they're in the Patriot League by then!

Put Lamberts Cafe on your must eat place, but be ready they throw you the rolls. Cash only but great food. Bout 30 miles south of the Cape in Sikeston where I55 and I57 come together.
