It seems like we give up a PK to
Saint Louis every time we play them. PKs are usually indicative of either gaffs or being constantly out of position.
Perhaps some consolation that the game was pretty evenly played, but the bottom line is Dayton left another reachable W on the table. The Flyers are 0-3-2 in the last five matches and have scored just twice in those five games -- two of them in double OT. We cannot score and half the problem is no killer instinct in the box to sacrifice one's body for an important challenge-and-win, poke, or muscle victory to punch a goal in. Jess Sheldon is going to stop crossing balls in the box if nobody is going to bother getting on the end of them and justifying her work.
Losing 8 times in a row to SLU is just unacceptable under any conditions. The last 4-5 years they have been the superior program no doubt but there's been 2-3 wins in there right for the taking and we continue to do just enough to fall short. Before you start winning, you gotta stop losing and right now we continue to make way too many unforced errors that too often make Dayton the most challenging opponent for Dayton.
Three or four years ago we could hang our hat on playing well but losing in the A10 as we rebuilt metropolis. But that ship has sailed. It's time to win these matches.
You cant win if you cant score however. Of the six matches our opponents have scored, we have only won ONE of those matches. Yet we've only given up more than two goals in a game once all season. In other words, we keep finding ways to lose 1-0 or 2-1 or tying 0-0 or 1-1. The defense has probably done enough to give the offense a couple more victories out there.
I have not gone to any matches at CJ's field. I just cant bring myself to watch UD soccer on carpet. Its a different sport.
