Height

The following is from Rick Kern's website.

3 players are 6'8". Wisconsin has a freshman MB. Florida has a sophmore MB. Stanford has a senior Rightside.

Just as shocking to me is there are 7 more players at 6'7".

13 are 6'6". 19 are 6'5". 132 are 6'4". 264 are 6'3".

There are 2600 players on D1 rosters. 8.7% are 6'3" or taller.

Dayton has 3. Jamie and Olivia are 6'4". Sierra is 6'3". They are all either sophomores or freshmen. I'd say we have above average height and will have that for the next 3 years. No wonder TH had to find a tall guy practice player.

Around the a10...

LaSalle has two - 6'4" and 6'3".
GW has two - both 6'3".
SLU and Fordham each have a 6'4" player.
VCU has one 6'3" player.

Witchta State has one 6'5" player and FIVE at 6'3".

North Carolina has TWO players that are 6'7".

Stanford has a sophmore 6'6" setter that won the National Championship as a freshman starter.

My 3 brothers and father are all 6'6" or 6'5". I have nieces that are 6'1", 6'2" and 6'3". And still, all these numbers above just floor me.

Not on Rich kern's website. In volleyball it's more about how high you can " reach". I still remember the NCAA match at Illinois and their two middle blockers not being that tall - like around 6'. But they had good hops and they both had really long arms. Their middles controlled the net and we had 6'6" Fletemier. They weren't that tall but could penetrate over the net with their block.

This is what I am talking about. Many gyms have a gauge for measuring how high your hands can get. When they measure vertical leap, they are measuring how high you can touch flatfooted and how high you can touch leaping. What made Chris Wright so amazing was just this. It would seem that information about a player is deficient if it doesn't talk about how high they can reach. How tall they are is important, how high they can reach is more so.
