Illinois-Chicago Game Thread
Time to shake off the tough loss to Seton Hall... Let's play some Dayton basketball and can we please hit some shots please
Go Flyers! Win this and then we have a chance to beat Ole Miss and have a very successful 10-4 OOC record with a tough schedule, not bad during a time of "change"

The Chicago-Illinois game will be televised on WHIO-TV (Channel 7) and is available with live streaming video at DaytonFlyers.com.
ABOUT ILLINOIS-CHICAGO
The Flames are 4-7 overall, but winless in six road contests. They are one of the better rebounding teams in the NCAA averaging 38.8 per game. Through the first 11 games of the season, UIC has enjoyed a balanced scoring attack. Seven players are averaging at least six points per game, including four newcomers, and two freshmen. Junior Daniel Barnes is UIC’s top scorer averaging 11.6 points per game. Barnes also leads the Flames in steals (18), minutes per game (30.0) and 3-pointers made (25). Senior Darrin Williams is a force as well averaging 9.9 points and 6.7 rebounds per game. The Flames are 2-4 this season in games decided by five points or less.
The DDN link below has more info on UIC, an update on Luke's status, and a comment by Archie Miller.

After a quick turnaround from the Wednesday game, I hope the Flyers come ready to play with energy and bring their defense, offense, and scrappy play. Then they will enjoy their week off after this game a lot more.

True, our defense is struggling with quick guards who are beating us with dribble penetration. That opens the door to a lot of good looks for the opposition.

Matt Kavanaugh has two slap steals and some really nice moves with and without the ball. Archie needs to have them be much more patient on offense. We are too quick with the threes!

That's probably what keeps his playing time down. You have to like his size though. I hope he can improve his footwork and get more playing time. He was a very successful high school player...just not able to make the transition to the faster pace of D-1 basketball.

Both teams woeful in FTs. UIC is 0 for 4 and UD 3 for 7, I believe. An important stat is that UIC is shooting 54% to our 37% so far.

Devin Oliver hits a 3 and then good follow up on KD's lay up. 5 - 0 run by Devin.

Can't see or hear the game. Turned on to see score and we are losing by 3 at half time to a team described as "awful" and "Worst team...." and who we are favored to beat by 17 points!!! We have already lost to three teams we were favored to beat and two of the losses were at home!!! What is going on out there?

Bad shot there by Dillard. Glad it went in.
In rhythm and open, but early in the shot clock and one step inside the 3-point line. Good to have some momentum, though!

That may indeed be the case. If so, we better get a lot better soon because there are some very good guards we will be facing in the A-10.

He surely did. The defense is much more aggressive; they are choking off the driving and passing lanes. I love the aggressiveness on offense...not resorting to the threes.

Their games are 3-centric and they aren't getting any good looks. UIC has some quickness on defense. We need to regain the momentum.

Good call there by the refs on Kav. At full speed, I thought it was a bad call. Worst part is he didn't have to do that hip check. If he stood still, the opponent would have charged him or missed a shot.

Dillard missed the front end of the 1 and 1. Just like Williams did just before him.

Can anyone imagine what Lyons and Holloway are going to do to UD's guards?

Up 5 with 18 seconds to go.
We were a 17.5 point favorite, right? Hope we can get up for Mississippi next week. I expected us to be fired up after Seton Hall.

Finally able to get the live feed and saw last three minutes. Luckily UIC went cold. Who is the UIC coach? Was impressed by the motion offense - there were two and three guys, even the big guy, cutting through the lane. We just don't seem to be improving playing as a unit. Too much inconsistency from game to game. After the Seton Hall game, the reporter in the Newark Star Ledger, who covers SH basketball, called Dayton a good team but an NIT team and he was not being critical of us. Cardiac year coming up.

Cardiac year?
When was the last time UD did not have a "cardiac year"?
I'm guessing that most Priders are too young to know that before the Arena the Flyers used to play in a building referred to as "thrombosis fieldhouse".

wow. that was underwhelming
There is no way we get that many chances to salt a game away against a good team. At 2:03 Paul Williams has to do better than that thing he threw up. And Dillard, 3 misses in a row? Really Kevin? Really? Game ball to Benson. Tough rebound, steal, block, free throw-- all in the last two minutes.
ok, a win. NEXT.

Dayton has to disrupt the motion by bumping cutters. They just like guys cut anywhere. Then they are a half step slow to rotate a d w guy gets to the rim.

OK, what is going on with Chris Johnson? He isn't shooting or rebounding. Still a knee problem? This team needs him to be a load on the opponents and he just disappears. Can say the same about Paul Williams too. Oliver, Dillard, Benson, Kav, Parker are all over the court and hustling, we need everyone playing hard all the time. Yes, we miss FTs, but at least these guys get to the foul line. We miss shots, but at least they are shooting. This team confuses me.

About Chris Johnson, it's fair to say that he hasn't scored as well as he could but he had 7 rebounds tonight and a handfull of hustle plays. He played well so I'm not worried about him, his effort is there every night. Williams however was a nonfactor on offense. D was good but hes to good to disappear like that.

Can anyone imagine a UDPride game thread without kiefaber455's stream of bile?
Really, 455, what do you do when there is no game thread to spew on? Kick your dog around the house?
