2023 Recuits
Our first member of this class looks like a good one. She was the setter for the 2019 National club Championship team. That’s a great pedigree. And hails from Texas which is putting out a lot of good players and starting to rival California in prep circles.
Emory Hinckley, Fort Worth, TX
6’2” Setter
Dallas Skyline Jrs - Club team - She was on the Black squad which is usually the top players in the club world
Attends Paschal High School
Her Twitter feed shows she was on campus recently.

In the 2022 class we have hitters coming in that are 6’3”, 6’3” and 6’4”. Crazy height continues.
Welcome to the Flyer family!

2023 Recruit, Emory Hinckley’s club team just won the Lonestar Qualifying tournament this past week in Dallas. This is a major qualifying event to go to Nationals, and a major event for college coaches to see players they are recruiting. It looks like Coach Balice was in Dallas while TH and ADE attended other tournaments in Illinois and Georgia.
Congrats Emory!

It’s not easy to win a National Championship. There are so many girls playing club ball and so many good club programs re ruining the best players in each area to make a run. Congrats to Emory and her teammates.
It seems programs like Dayton have to have a talented setter. We’re smaller but still in the national discussion when we have a setter who can place the ball where her hitters can be most effective. That’s not easy. We don’t have a team of top 100 players. We have 2-3 at best. Then we back fill with top 250 players. If you have a great setter, she makes all the difference because the 250 hitters can still crush the ball IF the set is good. They aren’t as good at making adjustments to hit and score when balls aren’t set well.
Looking forward to seeing Emory in a Flyer uniform and following her career. She’ll arrive in the fall if 2023. Until then, good luck her senior year in high school.

India and Emory signed their LOI today. One Dayton post said " Emory, see you in January", so she will be able to work out with them next semester.

Great job jumping on this. I had heard our new setter was coming in early but thought I should wait until she was signed before posting it. I checked early yesterday, but had family commitments yesterday and couldn’t get back to it. Thanks for your continued support posting volleyball news.

Welcome Gaby, India and Emory to the Flyer family. That’s a L-OH, MB and Setter in this class. Emory, the 6’2” setter from TX is enrolling in January so she will work with the team and play this spring. Gaby is the daughter of a former NBA player. India’s brother Marco Anthony plays basketball at Utah. Very athletic class so far. Thus will put us at 17 on the roster at this point for next season.

I guess a transfer is a recruit. Saw this tweet this am and Thurday Alyssa posted "Rockstar Day" so I am guessing this was the reference. Graduate Student coming to us from Wisconsin.

Good HS credentials. Im sure she got buried at Wisconsin with all the 5-star players.

Anna MacDonald will help our program immediately. She was a highly recruited L/DS out of high school. Played for A5 club which has produced a lot of great Liberos in recent years. I’m sure she is excited to be coached by Alyssa. Two seasons ago when we played those 2 matches up at Wisconsin, according to the Wisconsin coaches, our Libero Maura Collins passed at a super high rating. Anna would know that from team meetings. We lost both matches, but they might play big dividends with this transfer. With all the injuries/illness causing lineup changes on a weekly bases last year, it’s hard to say the team lacked leadership. But, it did. When you are trying to paste together a lineup every week, your focus is on player crash-course development to get ready to play. Leadership isn’t even in the mix. Anna will bring skills to the court and much needed veteran leadership. Horsmon has always liked Liberos and Setters who play fired up and are animated and verbal on the court. Anna has those characteristics.
I assume she transferred to start classes this month. That means we will have a 6’ freshman setter and this grad transfer joining the team for Spring ball at two critical positions. That’s a very good thing for inter squad competition. Usually it doesn’t start until pre-season camp in the fall. Getting started now is exactly what this team needs over the next 7 months. If you want court time next season, you better bring it every day.
Anna’s club team, A5 out of Georgia is also the club program of volleyball alum OH Jessica Sloan. It’s a good club program that competes for a lot of club championships. This will help our pipeline to future good players.
Welcome Anna! Bring it every day.

It’s behind a paywall, but the headlines from the Miami Herald says Gaby Arroyo was named POY for the Dade County-Miami area. Congrats! I also saw this on Wikipedia about her dad…but scroll down to almost the bottom and under personal life it says his daughter committed to UD Volleyball.

I see Anna Mac Donald is not on the spring roster (bummer). She stayed at WI for the spring semester to finish her degree. I was hoping she could graduate early and enroll at UD for spring ball. But she’s doing the right thing and she will be able to move this spring to be here the entire summer with the team. I see the three freshmen are all listed but to the best of my knowledge only Setter Emory Hinkley out of Texas is enrolled early and with the team. Horsmon announced this in the signing press release. Gotta love having a 6’2” setter on the team.
With only 1 Senior (Moore) and the Grad Transfer (Mac Donald), we will still be young next year but we will be way more experienced. We had a lot of first year players on the court last year. We are looking at an 18 player roster with 3 freshmen and 1 redshirt freshman this fall. It’s going to take a lot from any of them to beat out the older players that return. But all the freshmen are athletic and they will come in and up the intra-squad competition. We need all of that we can get to get us back to the top of the A10 and in the national conversation.
