Based upon the highlights that I've seen, I could see Mike out on the court with any number of combination of teammates. Big PG?, looks like he has the handles and passing, off ball wing? Looks like he has the stroke, undersized (strength wise) 4, he could really stretch the floor and be a mismatch nightmare for opposing teams.
Its easy to envision a "tall lineup" with Mike, Brea, Amzil, Mani and Daron. A ball handling lineup with Mali, Mike, Elvis, Amzil and Mani/DaRon. A spread 'em out offense with Mali, Kobe, Koby, Mike and Amzil.
Interesting that all these potential lineups that I thought of include Amzil, having 2 highly versatile kids with the length and skills to play all around is huge. Throw in RJ and you have all kinds of potential in mismatch nightmares. Not to mention that Holmes and Mail will be a mismatch for just about everyone next year regardless of him being a traditional "5" and "1"

Verbalcommits.com must not do their homework! Mongolian Mike is a 2 star? Koby Brea and Kobe Elvis are both listed as 2 stars. I wonder what Mark Schmidt would say how many stars they should be after they combined for 10 of 13 from the three point line against the Bonnies. They have Elijah Weaver listed as a 4 star.
The biggest joke of all was when they had Obi Toppin as a 2 star as a Freshman and then they never changed it. It still says 2 star but at least it said he went to the pros early!

Not thinking Mike will get much time at PG, his first three years at least, because if we have learned anything from AG it's that Mali will be logging the bulk of the minutes there the rest of his career

Mike looks great. He will not play defense the way Mali plays defense. Mali isn't on the court just to be the PG on offense, actually it's been his full court defense that sparked the turnaround in the season and seemed to light a fire under Blakney and his defense, and then the rest of the team.

Centerville Flyer,
I think you are confusing how those ratings work. First, don't use Verbal Commit's rating for much other than a portal to gather information, and frankly other than gathering info on who a team has offered or what offers a player has, its never been terribly up to date or accurate.
Second, once a kid's graduating class has its final "star" ratings, they never update them based upon performance in college. Obi was very much a 2 star recruit coming out of prep school, which means nothing more than he was a legit D1 recruit able athlete, but not projected to be a college star. Star rating, especially once you get past the top 100 is based more upon what schools are recruiting a kid vs what the projected talent level of that kid is. Obi was very much an unpolished gem who hit a huge growth spurt late in HS (IIRC he never even dunked until his senior year of HS). As the guard that he was at the time, there was reason for few to be intrigued by him, as a 6'9" stud that could leap thru the roof and run like a gazelle he became extremely intriguing.
Similarly, Elijah Weaver was a 4 star by several accounts, if not 4 star then high 3 star. Perhaps it hasn't panned out that way in his collegiate career so far, but they are not going to go back and revise what his star ratings were coming out of HS.
History has proven that 5 stars typically outperform 4 stars which outperform 3 stars and down the line. However, there are a multitude of cases where 5 stars flop while 2 stars sign. Since UD doesn't dwell and the land of 5 star one and dones the way UK or Duke does, and rarely in the world of high 4 star recruits they need to recognize kids that are undervalued by the UKs and Dukes of the world for one reason or another and they can develop over 2-3 seasons and maximize their talent. Freshman era Schoochie Smith and Jalen Crutcher played significant roles as frosh at UD, neither would have touched the floor at UK or Duke their freshman year, both were super skinny and not great shots. 2 seasons later both were significantly stronger and had improved their stroke and both would have played huge roles at either UK or Duke, thankfully they were playing those roles at UD.

I’m just worried that a couple of encounter with a physical DI player and he won’t look so smooth anymore!
He needs to put on weight pronto, or else he might end up a red shirt next year.
I am not usually a pessimist, but Mongolian Mike needs to double down on Mongolian beef, then hit the weight room, each and every day.

Front court is going to be interesting next year. Assuming everyone is back he's gonna be competing with Amzil, Holmes, Sissoko, Camara and Zimi

Is there as chance that the Zimi boat has sailed? Can't believe that if AG thinks he is going to be a vital part of next year's team that he wouldn't be playing him more this year.

I thought he showed promise but I don't know if he's still getting back from injury or he's lost his minutes.
In today's transfer world I think anyone not getting minutes could leave

Amaefule will be available in the front court as well. Nothing would really shock me, but everyone returning just feels like the least likely scenario for this offseason.

I’m expecting at least 2-3 more by year’s end. Hate to even think about transfers especially during the season but that’s the new reality.
I’ve considered each scholarship player and ranked from 1-12 - least likely 1 to most likely 12. I’ll see how well I can judge body language in a few months.

But not a word as to Amefule’s ,skills, strengths, weakness, ability to play at the a10 level, where he might fit, etc. Just a puff piece of human interest. Further to my contention that the author is a hack.

If that's how the teacher does things then I am glad Ohio passed funding the students not the school. You would think an article about Richard would go in a thread about Richard...Like this one http://udpride.com/forums/showthread.php?t=34989

He's a guard so he won't be competing with bigs for PT.
We could have used him these last couple of games with Weaver out.

Checkout photos of successful forwards from when they were just entering college. Lots of bean poles. Giannis who lives inside was scrawny. Not sure if it is possible but Durant looks like he has lost muscle since his rookie year. If you have shooting range, some kind of handle and athleticism, I don't think you need to be built like a brick house these days. The teams running an offense through a David West seem to be the exception and not the norm now.
It took time but the three point line has permanently changed the game. It just took a few generations of kids practicing nothing but 3-pointers. Maybe half court heaves will be next. Then being big and slow will be particularly useless!
Almost 18-year-old Toppin: https://www.lohud.com/picture-galler...slide:79142924

I agree with everything you say. But in regards to contributing right away like some posters are suggesting he may struggle. Toppin had two years post high school to develop before he played a game for Dayton. Giannis was also older before he became a strong rotation player. I think Mike will get there but there could be some issues early on in his career until he grows into his body.

If there's anything I've learned over the years, it's to not expect freshmen to contribute much. If they do, it's a very pleasant surprise. If they don't, it doesn't mean they won't grow into a fine player.
Look at Washington last night. He looked like a totally different player in his short stint on the floor than his previous attempts - even though he's played very few gametime minutes.
It's never easy to go up a level in sports and compete right away. Sometimes you just need coaching, practice time with that caliber player, and time to just watch and learn changes in speed, size and style of play.

1. WHICH PLAYER COMMITTED TO A LOW- OR MID-MAJOR ARE YOU HIGHEST ON?
Graf: I’m going to go with Dayton signee Mike Sharavjamts here. The 6-foot-7 forward is a ton of fun to watch on the court. He’s a versatile player that isn’t pigeonholed into one particular role when he’s on the court. Sharavjamts moves effortlessly around the court, seeming to glide at times. He’s one of the quickest players that you’ll find at his size and possesses very quick hands at the defensive end. The most impressive component of Sharavjamts’ game is that he always seems to make the right play time after time. The future Flyer’s basketball IQ is as good as they come.

Mid-season highlight tape of ISA Academy. Mike and his teammates seem enthralled with the off the backboard bounce pass:

So, yesterday I went to watch Mike and ISA play Lake Forest Academy from Illinois. Bottom line - Mike was in street clothes and did not play. He was limping and favoring his right ankle. Obviously not good, but not the end of the world either. The only observations were that he is as tall and skinny as advertised. That said, his dad was there and I did spend the second half chatting him up. His dad is a solid seven footer and was very personable and spoke fluent English. This stems from his time in the U.S. with the Harlem Globetrotters. He unfortunately did not make it to America until he was 26 and past his college years and the HG's was somewhat his only option - played 3 years. Mike was born here during that time, so he is a U.S. citizen. He also played on the Mongolian National team for 20 years. He's been "coaching" Mike since he was a toddler and has always emphasized ball handling /dribbling / passing. Mike has played on Mongolian National Teams since the U9 level and generally played up a level or two. Mike came to ISA with two other Mongolian teammates and dad is happy with the coaching and development. He and Mike picked UD because it felt right, the facilities, and AG and the staff were professional and seemed genuinely concerned with Mike and his potential career development. He was very aware of Obi Toppin and they went to the Slam Dunk contest and are going to the All Star game. This was somewhat of a rare trip for him to come back to the U.S. as it is an expensive 20 hour flight and he is a 7 footer . . . As for Mike's ankle, he rolled it in practice and he is "getting acupuncture treatments" for it. I'm guessing that the first choice of medical treatment in Mongolia might be different than in the U.S.? Mike's dad said that a main focus between now and when he hits campus is to bulk up. Dad is very solid, so hopefully he follows in those footsteps. That's about it, again looks like has a great father, mentor, and support system. I think dad instilled in Mike a great work ethic, he just needs to get to work.
So, ISA was up by 30 when I left with 3 minutes to go. They have a team full of shooters and 3 tall Mongolian kids. I'm guessing that part of the reason LFA was losing so badly, was due to the fact that they were wearing masks while playing, the, whole, game. No Lie.

Mike and ISA Academy are playing in the Top Gun event in Vandalia. They won on Saturday and lead nationally ranked SoCal Academy at the half behind 13 from Mike.
https://twitter.com/FlyinToTheHoop/s...C5maiN-dspAAAA
Mike and ISA lose to soCal 60-58 in his final HS game.
Next stop: Nike Hoop Summit in Portland.

I hadn’t seen anything about the Nike Hoop Summit being televised. In the past it’s been on ESPN2 but all of their networks are spoken for according to my Xfinity program guide for April 8. So I emailed Reggie Walker at the NHS and he responded “We will be announcing soon.”
The game is Friday and it’s currently Saturday so I guess we will find out where it will be carried “soon.”

So the Nike Hoop Summit is this Friday and still no live TV coverage or streaming has been announced. I'm beginning to think we won't be able to watch Mongolian Mike play live, but will have to rely on You Tube highlights.
However all is not lost. There will be radio coverage, provided by KFXX "1080 The Ticket" in Portland. You can listen live here:

Hey, guess what: The Nike Hoop Summit will be televised, but on tape delay.
NBA-TV
Sunday 4/10
9:00 am EST
Set your DVR now--I already have.
My thanks to poster "Devilhorse" on the Duke Basketball Report MB for ferreting out this information. The Dukies have signed 3 guys on the US roster.
I can see now why Reggie Walker at NHS didn't want to publicize where the game will be shown--he's still trying to sell tickets to the live event. They will announce that NBA-TV will be carrying it on tape delay after the game is over.

Even better news: the NHS will be live streamed on several platforms!
https://twitter.com/nikehoopsummit/s...Cq9dSW5_opAAAA
The @nikehoopsummit will be streamed on a number of different platforms this year, available on @usabasketball site and Twitter, the NBA's YouTube page, Facebook, http://nba.com and the NBA App. Game is Friday Night April 8 at 10 pm EST/7 pm PST.

Grew an inch since this thread was started 4 months ago. At that rate he will be our 7' tall point guard in the final 4 next season.

Mike has great court sense. He is going to be hitting Holmes and Camara with a lot of throw-downs next season. I have been a bit leery of the possibility of a 6'9 point guard, but the more I watch Mike, the more I am convinced he can pull it off. I love the way he pushes the ball down-court with such fluidity. I don't believe we have ever had someone like Mike whom we can compare him to.

He can really pass and that court awareness can't be taught. He has Magic Johnson instincts. His lack of strength might hurt him a bit as a frosh, but I am very excited about his prospects at UD.

I was going to suggest a Magic Johnson thought on my post on Mike, but I thought that Priders might think I have gone off the deep end. But he truly has Magic-like qualities, and in many respects, I think he actually handles the ball better than Magic did at MSU.

He moves so well and constantly without the ball he reminds me of Jim Paxson

Mike definitely is a hybrid. Smaller size version of Chet Holmgren. Court vision of Luka Doncic. Could be a force multiplier as a pivot, running options through him, causing mis-matches for the opposition.

His ceiling is incredibly high... but his strength and defensive ability is what will limit him initially -- I didn't notice it until he played against the bigger, stronger players in the Nike Summit game (guys blew past him on the drive a few times, and be didn't have the strength to rebound inside).

Will he need all of that strength at the 1, 2, or 3 slots? I would focus on his quickness and ball-handling. I am not sure I have ever seen a player of his height handle the ball as he does, not to mention his quickness for that size. He is going to be a matchup nightmare for defenses.

I agree, but I don't think it happened by chance.

He was forced to play at the 3 in the Nike Summit. He did block a couple of shots. He will be a 1 or 2 at UD.

Mike Sharavjamts (Dayton): Representing the country of Mongolia, Sharavjamts flashed what everyone has been buzzing about recently as he knocked down open looks, made plays in the open court, played sound defense and finished above the rim. While he didn’t necessarily have a signature performance throughout the week, Sharavjamts definitely sent the message that he’s a prospect to be taken seriously as he heads to Dayton next season.

Sorry if this has been asked and answered, but can anyone give us a phonetic pronunciation of Mike's last name?

It seem "shuh-RAV-jamtz" is what I've heard most often. Rhymes with "Shazam Pants." But that could just me getting into a group think bubble with my friends and we all decided to say it that way.
Only other way I've heard is "SHARE-riv-jamts." Rymes with "Sheriff Pants."

Try Mike with a long I. Preceded by Mongo, like Mango except with two O's.

What purpose does the Letter of Intent serve when today's rules seem to allow transfers without any restrictions any time or all the time? At what point is your recruit secure from poachers?

So his name, according to the Asian commentator in the clip is pronounced how it's spelled. Thank goodness I don't need to overthink that anymore.

Asian words are pronounced phonetically. However, 2 words can have the same spelling. The difference is the inflection.
