RIP Jayda Grant
Social media & UD reporting Coach Grant’s only daughter Jayda has passed away.
Here she was as a member of UD track & field. Puts things in perspective. Thoughts and prayers, inconsequential as they are, with the family.

Obviously a tragic situation. I personally know the pain of mental illness, and the destruction it causes in families. NAMI is a great organization that supports the loved ones of those who suffer from mental illness.

My heart goes out to the Grant family. As a father, I can’t comprehend the pain it must cause to lose a child.

Father in Heaven, We pray for the soul of Jayda Grant. Forgive her sins, enfold her in your love and accept her into your presence. We pray for coach Grant and his family, help them in this time of grief, keep them from despair and hold them close to Your heart. We pray for the UD family, help us understand what is truly important; to know love and serve you and to love our fellow Flyers as we love ourselves. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen

Coach Grant releases a statement:
“On behalf of my entire family, I want to express our heartfelt appreciation and gratitude for all your prayers, love, kindness, and words of encouragement following the passing of our daughter, sister, and family member, Jayda Danielle Grant,” Grant said. “Jayda battled with mental health issues over the past two years and was in therapy and treatment in the weeks and months prior to her death.
“As we grieve our beloved Jayda, please know that our faith and your prayers sustain us and give us strength. We encourage all of you to be advocates for your personal mental health and the health of those you love.
“At the appropriate time, my wife (Chris) and I plan to advocate for more comprehensive mental health care and to do all we can to increase awareness around these issues. Thank you and God Bless.”
Such heartbreaking news

Incidents like this contain the unaccounted for toll this pandemic has wrought. I’m not saying Jayda’s (and other’s) mental health issues were caused by the pandemic, but countless members in our society have been affected by Covid in many ways beyond the traditional Covid statistics. Hopefully we all begin to look out for one another and help those struggling. It’s challenging because many who struggle do so quietly.
BTW…this is not the time or place to spew political commentary so leave that on the OTG board.

Mental health issues were rising before the pandemic.
One of the effects of the pandemic was a sharp increase is mental health issues. No doubt. The pandemic had a lot of stress along with the physical issues. There are lots of causes and reasons, but we should acknowledge the increase, heighten our awareness and be more vigilant helping those who are struggling.
Easier said than done as often those struggling often mask or hide their pain.
