Tech beating #2 Cavaliers by 10!!
WTH. Tech sucks.
Rhody's E.C Matthews yet to enter game against Bona today. Probably second best player in conference behind Graham. Anyone heard anything?

Plantar fasciitis is a CHRONIC problem. (Think Rogers...different problems but similar long-term condition). Lot's of ways to treat it but NOTHING provides instant relief. Rest...rest...and more rest. We're talking months not weeks. Steroids suck because they have huge negative side effects (including rupture...especially for athletes).
URI is a gem in the rough and it is a tragedy if it is truly this chronic condition. Let's hope this is just media hype. We need URI to be exceptional. Mediocrity at the top of the A10 is our enemy.

And Butler's defeat of Seton Hall was a complete rout (77-57). We stand a decent chance of staying in the Top 25 this week, even with that clunker @ Davidson last Tuesday. Unless the # 26-30 teams all went undefeated last week, that is.
Also, in a battle of ACC also-rans and Flyer opponents:
BC 64, GT (BG) 62.
Tech is still winless in the ACC, and this one was played in ATL. Jackets shot 38% from the field and allowed BC to shoot 46% (45% from behind the arc). I'd be surprised if BG didn't blame the defense for the loss, and there's some truth to that when the other guys shoot 46%. But Tech only had to shoot 40% (aka pi$$-poor) to win it, and they couldn't even do that.
Sigh...

Sorry about Matthews being out, but we need the URI win.

I'd say we would want both.
1. We need Flyers to beat Rhode Island at UD Arena.
2. URI beating SBU is better because URI has a better chance of making it into the top 50 RPI than SBU. (UD is 2-2 right now against top 50. More top50 wins makes our resume look better)
3. URI winning maybe puts them closer to a bubble if they keep winning, which is good for the A10.

Yes, I meant that UD needs to beat URI, I am more worried about beating URI head to head rather than URI beating SBU, URI will be one of the tougher remaining games.

Everyone is so hung up on the whole top 50 wins thing they forget a couple things:
1) Overall RPI does matter - i.e. if you finish high enough, you will be in.
2) We are trying to get a top 4 seed in the conference and the double bye. URI is one of the competitors for that.
Also, URI would have to finish 10-1 to get into the RPI top 50 and that ain't happening. They've had close calls against Fordham and Duquesne. As someone on the A10 board said, they are still a year away. Doesn't mean they can't cause troubles for a top team this year.

Alcorn St (4-15) (NL) @ Bama A&M (4-14) I wonder if anyone actually wants to bet this in Vegas, does doing such automatically put you on some sort of secret government list of potential degenerates?
Elsewhere its a slow night:
Syracuse (+10.5) @ #15 UNC. Syracuse just hoping to get back on the bubble.
#17 Texas (+4.5) @ #9 Iowa St
Rankings are from last week, due to change when the new ones come out this afternoon.

Top 50 wins matter if you aren't in a Big-Money-5 conference. It happens every year. Top 30 is almost guaranteed for anyone. Top 40 for Big-Money-5 schools, and teams with Top 50 wins. Top 50 RPI and you better have greased the committee's palms with some cold hard cash, or have more Top 50 wins then the rest of the crowd. Look it up. Each year, it's the same thing.

The dance card site will have major swings to it between now and the end of the season due to the variables it uses. We were barely in after the Davidson loss and jumped 10 spots after the Richmond win.

That I get, but I'll assume you didn't throw money down on the game. Perhaps a future foxworthism: If you place money on a bet b/w two teams 500+ miles away that have a combined 8 wins near the end of January, you just might be a degenerate.
anyhoo, UNC overcame a slight half time deficit to pull away from Syracuse, who currently sports no top 50 wins, will be hard for them to make the dance, a rarity under Beihem.
Iowa St was up big last time I checked the game, this morning I see they won by 3 after giving up 61 2nd half points (and scoring 53 themselves, must have been a good one to watch). Doubtful that lose is enough to knock #19 Texas out of the polls. While they're solidly in the at large picture at the moment, they do have a number of losses (all to top 50 opponents) and only 1 great win (at home over WVU). Given the toughness of their conference, they're one to keep an eye on that could go from ranked, to out of the dance over the next month+. Sure they'll get plenty of opportunities at top 50 wins, but it will only require an upset or two at this point to leave them at 7-11 in conference play. While that probably gives them a half decent rpi and perhaps a few good wins mixed in, gonna be hard pressed to include a team that far below .500.

True, I just don't see Vandy winning @ Georgia, so I didn't include, almost did, probably should have, just in case, but elected to leave it out. Generally I've skipped over teams that are at home and "I think" should win easily, as we get closer to the end, probably makes more sense to include teams that are easy home favorites, because upsets do happen. UD is kind of inbetween things right now, their resume isn't strong enough that they are clearly in the field that you can ignore the bubble teams, but they're also up high enough that you have to look at teams for ranking/seeding purposes. Next 3 games will define how I/we look at this type of thing.

Jerry Palm did a study several years ago that showed AP ranking was a better guide for seed in the NCAA tournament than RPI so regardless of what some say, being ranked is significant. So I keep the list of all games of teams close above and near us in the rankings. That was the only missing game.

Root for VCU to beat GW tonight. We want that 2 or 3 seed so we can be on the opposite side of the bracket from VCU. We aint winning at VCU, i hope we do but you know the saying, hope in one hand....... Besides i just started a new job and can't get off for a 12 or 230 game.
Root for LaSalle to beat St. Joe's as we play the Explorers twice and Joe's only once.
OOC is easy root for all the teams on our schedule.
And of course our second favorite team tonight is Georgetown. Go Hoyas!!

I'll just call that a no lose scenario as Georgetown is just ahead of us in the rankings and we want them to lose for that reason. So either way, we get something good from that game.

No. We don't root for _avier under any circumstances. UNLESS _avier winning directly impacts our season not ending.
I could give two ****s less about the AP poll, im all about winning games and advancing in tourneys, exempt, conference and the Dance
I get what ur saying and this isnt a personal attack. I tend to react irrationally when it comes to that school down 75

There's one side of me that likes seeing that a team that leap-frogged us in the standings is going down on their home court to an unranked opponent. Then, there's the other side of me that says, "Yeah, but that unranked opponent is _avier!" I'm almost conflicted.
Almost...

# 20/19 Baylor hosts # 19/20 Texas Sat 1/31 6:00 PM on ESPN2
Both already have a loss this week so if there is a God, there will for sure be one spot open in both polls this week.

There is a god, but he lives in the Big 12. No matter who wins that game, they probably will both move up. These Power 5's just feed on each other's dung.
Doesn't help that the Big 12 sits atop the conference RPI ratings.

WOW.
Fordham beats Rhode Island. Matthews played but had a horrible game and Jon Severe turned the clock back to last year. If Paschall and Severe both get it going and keep it going they are going to be a problem the next two years if they have anything around them
Edit: Must have been controversy or a review, ESPN now showing RI winning

GT beating #23 Miami @Miami at the half by 8. Double victory for UD if they pull it off.

No, that would have been the Mega-Fecta. As it was,
- Ole Miss won (RPI boost)
- St. John's lost (RPI challenger loses ground)
- Indiana lost (Top 25 team and RPI challenger goes down); and, of course
- Georgia Tech beats Miami (RPI boost AND Top 25 team goes down).
Now, our Flyers just need to take care of bidness in Amherst on Thursday. Go, baby, go!

St John's was around 51 before the game and 60 after so they are not currently a bubble team.
Unfortunately, the 2 A10 results tonight were not in our favor as two of our pool teams lost to non-pool teams.
Also, a couple of teams went ahead of us with wins so we started out 25 but dropped. I'm pretty sure that we are not going to pick up much with a win tomorrow as UMass overscheduled the OOC and is only 10-9 which is below our current Opp SOS.

Flyers sitting at #27 in RPI. Interesting to note who sits just one spot above (Duke killers). More interesting to note who sits one spot below... and two spots below, for that matter. After all, Dayton IS just north of Cincy.

Thursday 1/29:
SLU (+4.5) @ Mason
Boston U (NL) @ Army
UIC (+7.5) @ Wisconsin-Milwaukee
Conn (+4.5) @ Cincy
DePaul (+10) @ Prov. (rescheduled for 2:00 today, continue doing God's work OP)
Mich St (-9) @ Rutgers
#16 Maryland (+7.5) @ Ohio St
#11 Utah (-6.5) @ UCLA
Overall, 49 of the tonight's 63 games involve at least 1 team (and often enough both teams) that are at .500 or under. Throw in a handful more games involving a team just 1 or 2 games over .500 (like UMass) and it seems like there are a lot of struggling teams on the docket tonight. Hopefully our Flyers can pull out the road win.

St. John's is still in first 4 out or next 4 out with most bracketologists. NCAA does not look at just RPI. St. John's is squarely on the bubble right now, but likely looking outside the NCAA if tournament started today.
Just as a reference, espn has them as the 1st team out in today's bracket.

I am glad we are pretty safely in at this point, but I hate being an 8 or 9 seed. We either need to win and get to a 6 or 7 seed or lose and drop to a 10 or 11.

Please God!! They are point totals not vote totals. This bothers me almost as much as should of, would of, could of or using loose instead of loss or lose.
I know it's just a message board but a little bit of correctness makes it a lot more readable.
End rant. ;-)

Note I said they are not currently a bubble team meaning after the loss to Creighton. They are in 60 of 76 brackets on bracket matrix before the game. I would guess that would drop to less than a dozen come Monday's updates.
And I do not count ESPN bracketology as a worthy source when looking for who will be in the tournament.
They currently do not have in 7 of the teams that the bracket matrix shows as in.

OK, so think of it like this, each voter gets 25 1st place votes, 24 2nd place votes, etc... the only caveat is, they have to cast all of their 1st place votes for the same team
Or, you know what I meant, and I think most know how it works by now, points, votes, tiddlewinks, whatever you want to call them, its all semantics

Got home late so will catch up with UD on the DVR but UConn game was on and the first thing I saw was a graphic stating Kevin Ollie was the 1st head coach with 60+ wins in his first 3 seasons . . . doesn't seem right

I didn't see that graphic, but the first coach I looked up--Anthony Grant--won 76 games in his 3 seasons at VCU.

Looks like a wild one on Hawk Hill. DAV was up 13 at the half, & are losing the 2nd half to the Hawks by @ 20. Hawks out-rebounding the Cats by @ a dozen. Both teams lighting it up from deep, but the Cats seem to be missing a lot of shots from inside the arc.
Also, looks like the refs forgot to bring their whistles. Only @ 25 fouls called in the whole game (both teams combined).

Good game to watch as momentum in the last couple of minutes went from the Hawks to Davidson with St Joe's giving up an 11 point lead. St Joe's up 5 with 42 seconds to go but Davidson can score quickly with their 3 pt shooting.

Wow, Wow GT blows the game in OT after being up 4 with less than 20 second. The GT guard misses two free throws up 2 with 6 seconds, and NCState makes a long three at the buzzer. BG has to be on suicide watch.

Double blow for UD -- hurts UD's RPI & helps NC State, a bubble team ...

VCU up 6 on Richmond at the half. Game is at VCU, but huge intracity rivalry.

And Arkansas get homered and loses by 1 at Florida. Very clean block by the Arkansas player get whistled, and Florida makes two to win.

The game has my full attention. Spiders up 11 with 5 to go. Somehow, it does not feel over.

Somehow, I think that he would play this game on crutches if Smart would let him. He is stirring the crowd.

The Spiders did a tremendous job handling the VCU pressure. The Spiders' point guard, Anthony, is a heck of a player. It was an enjoyable game to watch. Richmond is getting better, no doubt. It was almost as enjoyable as watch Seton Hall defeat X! There were six technical fouls in that X game...typical Chris Mack team.

I don't get people being happy VCU lost. I think we need separation at top of league standings. Richmond had better not be in top 5. If the top blends with the middle, less bids for A10... potentially impacting us

Reynolds is old-school X thuggery. I see another mandatory reflection session and public apology coming in Chris Mack's future.

Each team is judged on it's own merits. It makes our win against Richmond a little better.

If your goal is to win the league regular season title then you are happy.
