I would put money on our Flyers, or Chattanooga, to beat 3 out of 4 on that list.

I'm counting 5 top 50 games, Iowa, Vanderbilt, William and Mary, Xavier, and Monmouth, with a 4-1 record, for UD so far.
I count 4 for all of last season, Arkansas, Davidson, and VCU twice, including the A10 tournament vs. VCU. 1-3 last year vs. the top 50.

According to the rpiforecast projected rpi, W&M is a top 50 team at this point. They are projected to finish at 43.3.

Perhaps more impressively, Flyers are 3-1 road/neutral against RPI Top 50

Might want to be careful of this site. Their SOS calculations are not correct.

Though not by much, the A10 is now ahead of the Big 10 in the RPI. I hope A10 teams close out the non-conference strong so we can maintain this position. This will have implications for our RPI and for how many A10 teams make the dance.

Not an expert at this...
Projected? sos: Kenpom has the UD SOS at 39...rpiforecast has it at 35...Massey Ratings had it in the 70's.
Projected? rpi: Kenpom had W&M at 75...teamrankings.com and Massey had them in the 80's...rpiforecast had them at 43.
Sagarin predictor had W&M projected? rpi? at 80.
Who is correct?

Probably all of them and probably none of them. Projecting is an art - not a science. My guess is that Sagarin uses his own computation algorithm to project future winners and losers. rpiforecast's web site say they use the same predictor. kenpom junked rpi several years ago and now uses his own algorithm. If you look at the graph on the Dayton team page of rpiforecast, you can see how the numbers jump around. Even now they are showing a predicted range using a 95% probability (not sure how they come up with that) of about 5-60. Last week it was a range of 5-40.
My reference above was that rpiforecast does not have a correct SOS computation for the current RPI. Can't speak to their forecasting. If their current computations are suspect, what does that say about their forecast? The most accurate site I have found for current RPI is UDPride. IMHOP, any forecasting at this point is pretty iffy at best.

I was thinking the same thing, maybe not enough games have been played for these numbers to be really accurate...I guess that all the numbers on these different sites will start to better match each other as more games are played.

Minions! Act like you've been there. Micro-examining the SOS and RPI at this point of the season just screams 'I'm a mid-major'. I'm Royally beyond that...as is UD basketball and (most of) you should - as always - follow suit.

Mercer knocked off Arkansas at Arkansas? Wow!!! These unranked teams are kicking the big guys' butts all over! I love to see it! Utah knocks off the Dukies! Ohio State beats Kentucky! This is why I love college basketball. A team can get hot from the 3-range, as Chattanooga did against against the Flyers, and the giants can be knocked off at anytime!

More parity than I can ever recall. What I love is the P5 loving talking heads are eating crow almost on a daily basis. They can't sell papers touting Mercer or Monmouth, so they keep with the P5 chatter and then have to backpedal when the results are in.

IMO, it feels like UC has taken a step back in stature. It doesn't have anything to do with Cronin/coaching, but the AAC is below the old BE, and IMO it also seems that the AAC might be below the old CUSA. If UD got into the BE, I think UD would be above UC, UD/the A10 might be above UC/the AAC now. UC's attendance also continues to be well below the Huggins era numbers, and this is 10? years after Huggins has been gone.

Seems like several of these really good programs are having simultaneous down years: Temple, Connnecticut, and Memphis. Seems like even UCF and USF are down some.
Current AAC rpi's:
The AAC might be a 1-2 bid league this year.
15 SMU
46 Tulsa
75 Cincinnati
83 Temple
102 Connecticut
153 Memphis
158 Houston
161 East Carolina
212 UCF
245 South Florida
264 Tulane

Davidson is playing poor again. Losing 66-44 to Pitt on a neutral court with 15 to go!?!?!? Have not beat a top 100 team this year.

I'm seeing SMU and Cincinnati in, with UConn on the bubble.
And SMU has been banned from 2016 postseason play due to NCAA violations, so the AAC might only be a 1 bid league this year.

Watched a bit of the Bama loss to Oregon at neutral (at least for RPI) Birmingham. This is not the same Alabama team that played at the arena. Avery Johnson has got this team playing solid basketball. Their offense is starting to catch up to their defense. Oregon is very good. If the Tide keeps playing like tonight, I think they win quite a few games in the SEC. That is a big improvement from what we saw at the arena.

It was on in the background...I think Alabama had a chance to tie or take the lead with less than a minute to go...Riley Norris missed the shot though, and I think Alabama then had to foul, and Alabama lost.

'Bama does look SO much better than they did at the Arena. I think they learned a lot on both ends of the floor from that loss. They look like a top half SEC team.

Just realized Fordham is 9-1 (8-1 vs Div I).... RPI #127.... Good for them... that has to be a record for them doesn't it????
Seems really shady that they get a game vs BC... would have liked GW in that one to get another scalp in the A10 closet...

- MSU comes back from a 13 point halftime deficit to win it in OT, in a game that sounded a lot like what we faced in Orlando... whistles a-plenty. Over 60 combined fouls.
#5 Virginia 63 v. Cal 62 (OT)
- Cal blows a 5 point lead with a minute left in OT to lose.
#6 Xavier 78 @ Wake Forest 70
- Xavier comes back from a 15 point halftime deficit to win by 8.
#11 Iowa St. 81 @ #22 Cincinnati 79
#14 Purdue 68 v. Vanderbilt 55
Chattanooga 77 v. Radford 75
Navy 62 v. Furman 49
SEMO 78 @ Missouri State 74
Wichita St. 98 v. Nevada 69
Arkansas 97 v. North Florida 72
Iowa 85 v. Tenn. Tech 63

Gibson had 9 points, 5 boards, and 5 fouls in 25 minutes on 1-6 shooting and 7-10 free throws.
Khari Price had 5 points and 4 assists in 25 minutes on 2-7 shooting, including 1-6 for three pointers in USM's 59-40 loss to Tulane.

Pitino may have flipped the bird to UK fans yesterday while exiting the floor at Rupp Arena after Louisville lost.

Khari Price with a double/double last week. A bit off topic, but interesting nonetheless. Good to see him doing well. 20 points and 10 rebounds for a struggling team.

Games 12/28
Monmouth at Army 5PM (Sagrin says Monmouth by 4 1/2)
Davidson at Cal 9PM Pac12 Network (Las Vegas says Cal by 6 1/2)
Cal is RPI 89 right now but is predicted at RPI 48, lost to Virginia by 1 in its last game and seems poised to do well in the PAC 12. Hopefully, this could get the A-10 another good win and keep Davidson on track for a Top 50 RPI.

I am not going to hold my breath on VCU this year. They have really underperformed. They are going to be a dangerous spoiler in the A10 this year, nothing more.

Undefeated & 12-0 Xavier up to 6th in AP & USA Today polls.
Big East play starts now and the Musketeers are @ Nova and then 48 hours later vs. Butler. X likely to lose one (maybe both) of those games.

My guess, in the 6th to 8th range. I also think they improve as the year goes on.
And full disclosure, confused Davidson with VCU on the Cal game. Thus the somewhat random statement.

Monmouth appears to have real trouble against ANYONE on the road. But Army is not your typical Army team, they went to 9-3 with that win, losses only to GW, Tennessee, and... well yeah Marist, but still not as bad as normal.
Feel like we are going to see a nice 8-8 conference season out of Monmouth. They're gonna BG that non-conference success.

Like Dayton in the past, Monmouth just has too many land mines to overcome. Army is not a terrible squad this year and probably the Patriot League favorite. If Monmouth went to Duquesne or UMass and lost would that surprise anyone? Those teams are about equal to playing Army on the road. Just gotta hope Monmouth can hold serve at home (any home loss will be a brick to their computer numbers) and steal 1 or two at Iona and Siena.

The A-10 has had some really disappointing outings lately: Davidson has gotten smoked by both Cal and Pitt; VCU lost to Duke, Wisconsin, FSU, GT, and Cinci; and, GW had a bad loss at DePaul. St. Joes has a number of close wins, but has losses to Florida and Villanova; while Rhody lost a close one to Providence and just got nailed by Old Dominion. Overall, except for UD, the top of the A-10 hasn't fared that well in OCS games against other high profile leagues and this could hurt our profile at the end of the season. The " Dukes" who we open conference play with, have beaten PSU, but have losses to Pepperdine and Pitt and will face GT tonight.

Monmouth is proof it is easy to get up for the big names, but hard for the lesser name teams, like Miami.

Iowa handling top ranked Michigan State. Michigan has come back from double digit deficits but Iowa looks good and is up by 16 with under 13 in the 2nd.

5 top 50 wins? Who cares. UCLA can go 19-14 and 2-10 against the top 50 and Texas too and we'll still be play in bound. The Power 5 have the committee by the balls.
I dont have a problem being the last team in last year. I have no problem with the play in game. What i have a problem with is the committee verbally dry humping the facts until they got the result they wanted.
UCLA,Texas and Indiana had no business being in the tournament last year, let alone ahead of us.

Pretty good day for Dayton's opponents:
Iowa, William & Mary, Chattanooga, Alabama, St. Joe, GW, UMass won. Bama was down 2 @ half (@ home) against Jacksonvile State, enjoyed a 43-8 (!!!) free throw advantage, and won in overtime. They gave up a 3 to tie it @ 55, then missed at their end, but JVille St traveled on the rebound. Bama got fouled with 2 sec to go in a tie game, Obasahan missed two free throws but they hung on in OT.
Richmond lost @ Texas Tech, Duquesne led by 1 at half but lost @ Georgia Tech. SLU lost to K St. Furman, sadly, lost on a buzzer-beater @ UNC Asheville.

Teams like UCLA, Texas, & Indiana have many more chances at "fair" wins (not wrong end of buy game) than most non-Power 5 teams and that is how they can veil the bias. We are lucky this year in that we had so many Top50 games before conference. Logically, there should be more of a basis on winning percentage of Top 50 than just winning a few out of many, but Money/Name Recognition matters (more than it should).

Not a good day for Xavier. Defeated by Villanova 95-64. Their freshman, Sumner, injured very early in the game and taken to a hospital. They said he was talking and able to move.

Really Bad day.
Xaiver loses.
Wiliam and Mary loses to Townson -- W&M home and had 85% chance to win. W&M now projected to be 60 in RPI for the year (down from 50). So very likely lose a top 50 win.
SE MO St. loses again and 2-11.
Lasalle getting killed by FL Gulf Coast.
So 0-4 today for opponents + W&M dropping out of top 50 win ...

Villanova gave X a clinic on good basketball. Hated to see the young man get hurt, no kid deserves an injury after the hard work. I am relishing this win, X looks terrible: http://www.vuhoops.com/2015/12/31/10...5-64-start-1-0

BTW, I predict Providence will be exposed in the Big East. After reading about Cooley and Dunn, I have soft spot for them.
But they are 40-50 in kenpom, sagarin, etc. Only top 100 wins are Arizona, Evansville, and Rhode Island. Their 12-1 record built on beating teams in their 200s.
Most of the computer polls have them going anywhere from 11-7 in the BE to 8-10 with most having them go 9-9 or 10-8.
They have less than 20% chance of beating Butler today.
Not a top 25 team IMHO and #12 ranking is a joke.

Too bad about that kid Sumner, because he is the real deal, and as good a freshman as is playing this year. We need to recruit a kid like that.

Can't figure what happened to W & M. They played two of the worst teams in the country and barely beat one and lost to the other, both at home.

I just went over to the NBE website and the X fans are in rare form. They have a group that is just toxic on message boards. Other fans in their conference are getting a taste of that.

Most of the computer polls have them going anywhere from 11-7 in the BE to 8-10 with most having them go 9-9 or 10-8.
They have less than 20% chance of beating Butler today.
Not a top 25 team IMHO and #12 ranking is a joke.

Providence took care of business against Butler at Hinkle.

Yes they did, I was wrong.
I still believe they are way overrated at #12.

Hard to argue with a team, who just beat Butler, who just beat and excellent Purdue team.

Iowa - down 17 at the half at #14 Purdue, outscores the Boilers by 22 in the second half for the win. Hawkeyes just beat then #1 MSU on Wednesday as well. Pretty good week for them - and by extension for us.

Sorry to hear about Sumner. From what I choose to recall about our game against them, he seemed like a good player and a fairly class act. But on the other side of that coin, the look on SMackura$$'s face in this picture is worth framing, given what a d-bag that guy is:

That Iowa win is going to be HUGE come march I really do believe it. For those you that care about being in the top 25 we could sneak in this week but I have a feeling that it will be one more week until we get in. South Carolina with a win in a game where there were like 60+ foul calls, 4 Memphis players fouled out. Looks like they will stay in the top 25. With that, I think you will See UC, Baylor, Utah, and UCLA all bumped out. Iowa will certainly jump us and if Oregon wins we will most likely be in the 25-8 range However, it would be cool to see GW and Dayton both in the top 25 for the Matching coming up in a couple weeks!

Simmons is the real deal. LSU just put him at the point and let him create or dish. Vandy had no answer. He has the whole package.
