Pierre gives us some extra toughness and grit, IMO.

Archie on his show after the game when asked about this situation and failure to foul! "I screwed that up".............I love this guy!
DP with 33 minutes in his opener! I also love that young man as a player!

I was beginning to think the Hogs sneaked Bobby Portis back in the game. Kingsley was a stud. I'm just glad they didn't listen to Gullen and feed Kingsley every time down the floor.
RPI aside, that was a quality win.

If we would have lost, it would have been easy to point to end of game FTs as a reason but if it had not come down to that, I don't know what I would point at. They had talent. We could do no wrong at the start and then the law of averages and foul trouble came into play.

Helluva game. I tip my hat to the HOGS and their coach. As a matter of fact, I tip my hat to the SEC for scheduling us more often than any other "major" conference, year in and year out. Now, we gotsta take care of bid-nez in the A-10 because our league really hasn't performed that well this year against the big boyz.. GO FLAAAARS! We are the standard bearers for the A-10 this year and now we have to show it...and we CAN.

Beard is only in his 3rd game this season. He is a huge difference maker for them, really controlled the game for them in the 2nd half and hit big threes.

True dat. Once Archie switched-up the D and had Pierre guarding Kingsley, his offensive production went way down. Pierre just knows how to play "position defense" better than most of his teammates.

Kendall really needs to focus on improving on defense. Pierre is much better defender than Kendall both in the post and on the perimeter.

Said much the same thing to a friend whom I saw at halftime, but I said Archie could only play the freshmen 2 at a time, at most. Especially (a) when Crosby is in the game, they need KD and Cooke on the floor with him, and (b) when Sam is in the game, he needs Pierre or Pollard alongside him. Steve and X-Man can play with virtually any combo of guys, and Mikesell needs to play the 3 against bigger, slower wings. But for this year anyway, we can't have any combination of Sam, Crosby, and Mikesell on the court at the same time. And we even need to be careful who's on the court with Baby D, depending on our opponent's lineup.

You can't play KD and Crosby together. Can't space the defense because their defenders will
Lay 6 feet off and give them the three. Corosby needs to play with Cooke, D Davis and Pierre.

Not having been there,...
Can someone help me a bit? I saw in the box score that Steve played only 11 minutes. Did he lose his min to DP? And how/why did he get five fouls in 11 min?
Thanks.

Just a wild guess but I think the 5 fouls may have something to do with the 11 minutes.

Steve started and played about the first four minutes, and played well. His defense blocked or altered several shots. Then he fouled and sat. He came back in several minutes later and fouled again, and sat until the second half. At that point he was a referee magnet. Two of his fouls were questionable, but they were called and he was gone.
Steve, just like Pollard, has got to learn, do not get fouls one and two, because you may not be able to control the rest.

He got the third early in second half and drew the fourth before a sub could enter.

I think Archie could have subbed after the 3rd but used it somewhat as a teaching moment to see how he would do with 3 fouls - Steve failed.
