How was that no a player control foul on Pollard (on what should have been a block)? Why did they shoot? Because he lost the ball as he was going up?

Wow. Pollard didn't finish, but what is a guy supposed to do when a defender slides into his position after the offensive player already jumps? WTF?

Warm up the bus. Now we sweat out Selection Sunday in terms of landing in the 8/9 game. I feel they've done enough to earn a 7. But the committee is the committee after all.

I think it was, but I think Kyle Davis got called for a foul while they were showing the replays, which led to the free throws.

Damage control now. Keep it under 10 so the committee doesn't see it as a bad enough loss to cost them a 7.

**** St. Joseph's. They'll lose in the first round and the Flyers will advance. Hard to see how Martelli could have the NCAA tournament officials in his back pocket.

5-19 on threes. Our outside shooting has been a disaster in the second half of the year, and will be our nail on the coffin.

The shot clock is 30 seconds. SJU made one pass. When the jump ball was called the shot clock showed 23 seconds. I learned that math early in school.

I think Smith forced a jump ball very early, on one of SJU's first three possessions, maybe.

Forget free throw practice. Line this team up around the 3 point line and have them play horse from now until our first tournament game. Our 3 point shooting is embarrassing and could prove to be our undoing in the tournament.

Really getting to dislike St Joes. The tone of this game was set early in the 1st half when we were getting hammered and fouled everytime we took the ball inside and there was no call to set the right tone. And their big guys hitting shots they don't even hit in warmups. ****es me off. Refs were really bad. Pierre played poorly and the decline of DD just continues to amaze me. His +- on the year must be really really ugly.

Now onto the NCAAs

FINAL: Saint Joseph's 82, Dayton 79. Optimism reminds you Saint Joseph's knocked Dayton out of the 2014 @A10MBB tournament. #Elite8

Once again Joe's 22-25 from the line and we only get 18 tries and make 13. A margin of 9... game, set match.

We have to hit more 3's to win games in the NCAA. Greatly simplified, but true. We can get wide open 3's by guys that can hit 35-40% from three and lately not hitting anything.

This is the 3rd time in a row where I believe the Refs got in our way. The pushoff/travel by Galloway, I remember some pathetic calls in the final 2 minutes last year against VCU and this game was the worst, from the start to finish.

Totally agree- I'm not sure why AM doesn't employ it until the game is over- had he done this at the 5-7 minute mark- I think St. Joe would have choked the lead. But had the F ucki g refs called the foul on pollards attempted dunk- it could have been a different game without the press.

If you run the A10 and you think Dayton is solidly in, and you need St. Joe's to get to and / or win the tourney championship to get in, do you think the refs understand that logic? Tired old conspiracy theory, I know, and the reason why every conference awards their automatic bid to the tourney winner instead of the league winner. But do you think it really ever comes into play?

More raw bitterness here, but I contend that, in any game decided by 4 points or fewer, the refs' calls/non-calls can influence the outcome. Case in point: the B.S. charge call on Pollard. He should have gone to the line for 2. Instead, SJ went to the line for the 1-and-1. Potential 4-point swing, there. And we lost by 3.
I rest my case.

I've always felt that way. Watch how the Refs handle Davidson for confirmation. Except that might be a replacement rather than addition. If Davidson should take this thing down, I have a feeling they replace the Bonnies.

1.Think this is where Jordan Siberts value was missed.
2. Good hard fought game, nice pressing and cimeback. We have the horses. Arch shd press more!
3. FT Shooting. Mehhhh
4. Dp isnt same pmayer, KP was pretty great today.
5. Besides Big Steve, no real bench help. Even Bobby gave us great minutes last year. X played well, but DD is a huge disaster. Frankly, i hope he transfers. Bad body language , guy cant hit crap any more too.

Flyers need to make more shots.
I thought Steve played well. Still has work to do on defending the ball screens but Pollard and Pierre struggled as well today.
Lost season for DD with the exception of the three pointer at URI
Nice defensive effort by Cooke on Bembry. Bembry's willingness to pass the ball makes him tough.

We didn't shoot the three well (and St Joe was unconscious) but these refs were HORRIBLE. Missed so many obvious calls it was ridiculous. The charge on Pollard, the 5 second call, and so many others I can't even remember them all. Oh well, on to the dance!

I like Archie's message and attitude in the post-game radio interview: "we're ready for one more surge." He also slammed Snotlieb: "Maybe Doug Gottlieb's got us out, I don't know." Atta boy, Arch!

Please!!! The guy spent this season improving his inside game and defense. He's going to be a star. And by his senior season you're going to eat those words. He'll have his old sweet 3 point stroke back next season, mark my words. And what possible reason would you want him to transfer?

Has a regular conference team from the A10 ever been left out? I think the graphic showed Palm projecting us a #6 seed; I'd be fine with that or a 7, but I fear for some reason we end up as an #8. God I hope not...

Or the committee could treat us like last year and give us a 10/11 which would be fine with me if we avoided the 8/9 game

I think we'll be a 7, but as for your "...I fear some reason..." I think it's easy: much like a batter's a little gun shy after getting beaned in the head, we're all a little jittery getting back in the box.

DD's overall game--playing around the basket, ball handling and defense--all improved. His outside shooting went south. If he can put it all together, he will be one lethal weapon.

I know I fall into this trap, but I sometimes tend to focus on teams making those "WTF?" plays rather than just taking care of business. I'm sure there's an advanced tracking system out there (maybe not available to the general public) that will put numbers to your statement - with which I agree - showing SJU took advantage of open shots while we struggled mightily while also showing SJU probably out-paced us in high-leverage situations. I just think of those few times we cut the lead to three or five, with the ball, but couldn't make a shot only to have SJU take the ball back down and score.

If SJ wins the A10 tourney, I have a feeling they get seeded higher than us and I think even though it should help us, they will put them in the 7 seed and move us to 8. Seems kind of odd that a team that finished 4th would get the conferences highest seed, but I think they will if they win it.

The game in a nutshell for me:
Pierre's trey rattles halfway down and back out, Miles is then fouled by Pierre on the other end while shooting a trey, makes all three free throws. Six point swing, more than the final margin of victory.

In regard to the non five second call there is no five second violation in the back court.

Darn it, Wikipedia (the all-knowing) confirms your statement. Thanks for the information!
Wikipedia also notes it's different for women's college basketball in that the rule's applicable anywhere on the court.

Another play that could've kept the momentum going for us was the one where Pierre grabbed someone's jersey while chasing a loose ball away from the basket with only 3 seconds on the shot clock. If he doesn't foul, there is no way that SJ gets to that ball and puts up a makable shot within those 3 seconds. Not a smart play by DP. It seems like every time we had momentum, we shot ourselves in the foot.

Yep, I did the same. I guess it makes sense that you have 10 seconds to get the ball to the front court and if you're able to do that while holding the ball in one spot for 8 of those seconds, more power to you.

Correct about the women that it can happen anywhere on the court but they don't have a 10 second backcourt count.

Def agree he has improved ball handling and driving ability.
He stepped away from taking an important charge, makes turnovers at THE worst times. Its more body language, rushed shots and defensive lapses i cant take.
He is adding little when we need it. Wish Mikesell or X or he were more proven. IMO , we arent getting ANYTHING out of our 7th man.
And this is killing us!

Mikesell has played one good game all season and it was the first one and that's it. Wishing he was more proven? That's about as useful as wishing TJ Cline would've chosen UD to play for.

Until Mikesell learns to play defense, he is going to be a liability. I'm sure this will be his homework this summer
