The Catholic schools are spread out over two conferences and a half dozen as independents. The catholic schools do play each other. Why Holy Name plays in a weak Great Lakes Conference with only one other Catholic school is a mystery, and why they do not play other Catholic schools in non-conference games is a bigger puzzle. Up until the last two years, they have been pretty weak. HN is Division 2, but so are several other Catholic schools.

My question is if Dwayne Cohill is supposed to be in attendance for our game with Fordham how is he going to be in two places at one time???

They had a game cancelled for weather about a month ago, so probably a makeup.

Dwayne Cohill was a no show for the Fordham game! He scored 15 points in a home game tonight as Holy Name defeated Rhodes 100-63. A teammate of his, Brandon Styers, a good 3 point shooting guard led all scorers with 35 points.
Next game is at Lake Catholic Tuesday evening 2/20.

I just watched his you tube video. The senior is a baby faced assassin! Reminds me of Brad Redford who used to play for the team down south who shall remain nameless!

That Holy Name team looks like they are extremely well coached. They pass the ball so well...unselfish, well-disciplined group. I would keep an eye on them for other players.

It seems as though Gilmour's game plan was to let Cohill get his points but to shut down Styers on 3 pointers as he only had two for 6 points.
Dwayne's average for the regular season is 22.6ppg.

#1 seed Holy Name won it's first OHSAA Division II playoff game tonight at home over Rocky River 86-62 as Dwayne Cohill led all scorers with 26 points.
Holy Name's next game is next Wednesday, 3/7 against the winner of the #4 and #5 seed game between Keystone and Buckeye also played tonight.

Final Score was 70-59 as #1 seed Holy Name defeated #4 seed Keystone 70-59.
Holy Name, 21-3, plays the winner of tomorrow nights game between #2 seed Bay and #6 seed Fairview. If Holy Name and Bay meet in the District Finals the Green Wave can get revenge as Bay gave them one of their 3 losses 104-95 back on January 26th. Dwayne Cohill scored 36 points in that game!

What class is this? Not much height on either team and Keystone players look like middle school age. Glad to see Dwayne has some ups.

Dwayne Cohill's high school career ended this afternoon as Bay defeated Holy Name 74-66 in 1 OT. The score was tied at 59 at the end of regulation but Bay outscored the Green Wave 15-7 in the overtime.
Maybe lhsgolf19 can find a box score and give a summary of the game but all I could find was the score!
The box score showed the statistics for Bay but not Holy Name. R.J. Sunahara 6'6" 200 lbs. scored 34 pts. for Bay. He is committed to Fairmont State U. in Fairmont, WV. next season.

By my count Dwayne finished with 2183 pts. which would put him at or around 25th all time for Ohio's state leading scorers. That is a pretty prestigious accomplishment because his name will be included with some elite names in Ohio basketball lore!
I know that a loss in the Division II District Finals is not the way he would have chosen to end his high school career but, like Jhery Matos, his UD Flyer career can officially start now.
He has stated that he is excited to be a Flyer and, as a season ticket holder, I will be excited to watch him for the next four years!

"A key moment was at the 2:05 mark of the second quarter when Holy Name's Dwayne Cohill, a University of Dayton commit, picked up his third foul on a charge. He exited with nine points and four assists. He would finish the night with a team-high 28 points, seven rebounds and six assists."

He will probably remember that charging foul for the remainder of his playing days as being a hindrance to perhaps a State Championship in his Senior year!
If nothing else, it may make such a significant impression on him that he will be extra careful not to get into early foul trouble in future big games while playing for UD.
I had Kendall Pollard in mind when I made the above statement because that used to get all of us frustrated! Kostas seems to be doing better in that regard. I just hope it continues!

Here the ref calls a double T after Dwayne is put on the floor by 2 Bay players. Really quick whistle as Dwayne is still on the floor when the whistle blows.

It was hard to tell - it was a bang bang play and DC was on the ground and the ref called a double T immediately. They had to have exchanged words. This was late in the game and it was getting pretty physical and the refs were in danger of losing control of the game. There were 5 total technical during the game. They did call a personal foul on the Bay player.

Dwayne went to the floor on his own. Off balance...avoiding contact...I can see why no foul was called. I slowed the video down and watched it 5 times and saw no contact by the defender...but had the ref called the foul it would have been an easy 'sell' because the shot blocker wound up and tried a windmill rejection.
FWIW, I'd have called the foul...especially if there were numerous Technicals called ahead of that play. Game management...you have to penalize over-aggressive play like that.

There was no technical foul called on Dwayne on that play. It was called on the Bay player for taunting. Dwayne did receive a technical foul later in the game as part of a double technical. The officialls lost control of the game and did a terrible job. I was an official for 17 years and I normally don’t say bad things about the other officials, but they had no clue. Tournament assignments are usually are voted by the coaches and the officials advance based on the coaches votes. They had a bad game. On that note Dwayne needs to control his emotions and keep his cool. His defender was in his grill the entire game and in his head as well.

Ohio's Mr. Basketball will be announced today. Alonzo Gaffney, 6'9" junior forward from Garfield Heights is the front runner. Dwayne Cohill was listed in the top 10.
The last Ohio Mr. Basketball to come to the University of Dayton was Brooks Hall!

Associated Press only chooses one Ohio Mr. Basketball. I searched Wikipedia.org and it showed Justin Fritts from Mentor High School was the winner for 2012. Jared Sullinger from Northland HS won back to back in 2009 & 2010 and went on to fame at Ohio State. Trey Burke from Northland HS won in 2011 and went on to play for Michigan and the Washington Wizards. With Devon Scott and Jalen Robinson, both teammates on Northland, I don't think the Associated Press wanted to make it 4 years in a row for Columbus Northland by awarding the honor to one of the two!
I'm happy because it would have been even more embarrassing than it already was when Dumb/Dumber pulled their shenanigan.

I'm happy because it would have been even more embarrassing than it already was when Dumb/Dumber pulled their shenanigan.

Brooks won the Ohio Basketball Coaches Mr Basketball award in 1999 (no longer awarded). Isaac Jefferson won the AP award which is what remains today.

Dane Goodwin from Upper Arlington High School was named the 2018 Ohio Mr. Basketball today. Congratulations to him and good luck in his future endeavors as he is the son of a past UD Flyer basketball great.
Damon Goodwin averaged 90% from the free throw line. I hope AG is able to recruit players that can come close to that percentage!

Up until the last two years, they have been pretty weak. HN is Division 2, but so are several other Catholic schools.

Late to this thread, but I think I can explain Holy Name's conference situation. The Wave used to be in the North Coast League, a conference consisting of most of the medium and small Catholic schools in Greater Cleveland. The league is big enough that it has two divisions, roughly based on school size. Anyhow, when Holy Name was a member, they were placed in the smaller school division, despite having an enrollment large enough to probably qualify on paper for the big school division. However because football played a large factor in divisional placement, and because Holy Name wasn't really strong enough to compete in the bigger division, the school was put in the smaller division. My understanding is that they were unhappy with this arrangement, particularly being in a division with smaller schools spread out as far away as Canton and Youngstown, so they bolted when they got the chance. They're now in a strange league that has a number of schools that can't find better conference fits, though it does have a few public schools that are very close in proximity to Holy Name so travel isn't too bad. Also of importance is that Holy Name is very competitive across the sports in this conference.

Ok, all summer long we've been getting various levels of updates on all of our incoming players/freshmen, except Dwayne. Cohill is our first 4 star recruit since ? and the most recent post all summer is "congratulations on graduating from Holy Name." Does anyone have any intel on how DC is fitting in / progressing, etc?
