Call me a diehard but.......

when i look at all of our losses i ask my self .....how would we match up on a neutral court? I think we would match up against everybody except Kansas State. I believe we would lose 4 out of 5 against KS on a neutral court. They have big guys that can go to the rim and exceptional guards in Clemente and Pullan. Of all the other teams including New Mexico and Villanova (who are also rated in the top ten)we match up very well on a neutral court. I predict we will be a 4 point dog against Xavier. That means another close game. We win 2 in the a-10 tournament and go to the finals and maybe just maybe!!!!!
Im a football guy so what do i know.

The truth is

that we match up great with ANY team in the A10. IF this team plays up to its overall potential, they could win this tourney. BUT, the frustrating thing with the Flyers is that you just never know which team is going to show up on any given night.... Will it be the 30 point CW, or will it be the 5 point CW? Will the threes fall at a 35% rate or will they fall at a 0 to 20% rate? Frankly, I think it is rare indeed when the 7th place team in the A10 has what could be called a pretty legitimate chance to win the tourney. We will not be favored on Friday, but there really is no reason that we cannot win this game. Not only should we win, we should win by 10+. I just remember a CW shot this year in one of our blowout wins. I do not remember if it was Xavier or Charlotte, but it caught my eye. He was almost falling down, looked to be out of control, and seemingly just heaved the ball towards the basket. SWISH! It was just one of those nights. Many nights this season, it seems as though a shot like that would have bounced off the bottom of the rim and right into the hands of a defender. I have no idea what causes this team to play with such a wide swing this season. It seems obvious that if the team that showed up to play Xavier and Charlotte at home surfaces in Atlantic City, we have a great chance of winning the tourney. If, however, the team that played Rhode Island, at Duquesne, at Saint Joe's, etc. shows up, we will be coming home on Friday night and looking ahead to the NIT.... Since there is just no way to know which team shows up, all you can do is root them on, hope for the best, and make sure that you have taken your blood pressure and heart meds BEFORE tipoff....

I think DetroitFlyer is on target here. I always like UD's chances on a neutral court no matter who they are playing, but, they have no consistency. I hope I'm wrong, but I don't see them stringing together 3 solid-outings in a row to win the tournament. "Bad UD" will inevitably show up at some point.

Which team will show up....?

DF, others, with good teams you "do know" which team will show up. Consistency is one the most important things that distinguish very good teams from middle-of-the-pack teams.

Really good players don't score 25 and pull down 15 rebounds one night and disappear entirely or lay eggs other nights. Really good players don't excel so long as they're playing at home....but seldom if ever on the road.

For we Flyer fans to keep telling ourselves how good the team really is if only they play their A game makes little sense. The really good teams invariably play their A game, which is why they are "really good teams"...and their records reflect that.

You are what your record says you are....no more, no less.

Yes, but right now it doesn't matter what our record is, and we don't have to be consistent throughout an entire season. All we have to do is play two great games in a row to get back on the bubble and perhaps even into the dance. Let's play back-to-back games like we played against Xavier and Charlotte and then we will have a shot at Temple and the auto bid, or perhaps even sneak in with an at-large.

Two great games....

....yes, and if pigs had wings....

I truly hope I am wrong. But the two "great" games UD had were at the Arena.

Two weeks ago UConn had a magnificent week beating Villanova, West Va and Rutgers, two wins on the road. The Huskies thrust themselves right back in the NCAA hunt....at the expense of Dayton....some bracket guys said at the time. But the truth is that the team is not very good...and that great week was followed by four godawful, depressing losses during which their play was dreadful.

Not easy to understand. But, to repeat, consistency is the hallmark of really good teams. Average teams can have sensational games or even weeks. but, the season extends over 3+ months. That you cannot fake.

Thanks for making my point. All we need is one great week. Another thing you are not taking into consideration is that we were in EVERY game this year in the last few minutes. We did not get blown out once, didn't lose a game all year by more than 8 points. We blew some games and had some bad luck, but there is no reason we can't turn that around.

We are inconsistent game to game but also inconsistent half to half. If we play two halves instead of one against St Louis we win. There cannot be any bad halves of basketball in the next three games, we do not have the offense to recover from 10-20 minutes of sloppy play.

If our D plays belly up the entire game, hit the boards and be patient on offense we can beat any team in the a10.

Why should neutral court make a difference? We lost two games we were favored to win at home. Must win tournament outright to get in.
