Just out of our league against teams with this much speed and pace. We do not have the athletes to compete at this level yet, so getting hammered today is not all that surprising.
We finished 16-4-1 and in my estimation beat 16 teams we were better than, and lost four times to teams we were squarely less talented than. In other words, we got as far with the talent and roster at hand we one can reasonably hope for. In fact, there were 4-5 games we won that could just as easily been losses. But in our four losses, we were considerably overwhelmed in terms of run of play.
Golz job is to ramp up recruiting with more athletes because its one of the ways we can close the gap on
Saint Louis. We are hitting the ceiling of what can be done with technical execution and need to bridge the gap with faster players that bring more pace on and off the ball. The only way you can do that is through recruiting. You cant make someone faster -- they are either quick-twitch or they arent.
Bottom line, we won 16 games and a 17th win was probably never gonna happen. The 2-2 tie to Toledo is the only result we left on the table.
