Things for "Scoochie" Smith to Read on His Official Visit

BEVERLY HILLS (MI) -- As I write this, New York City combo guard Dayshon “Scoochie” Smith is on the University of Dayton campus, partaking of his official recruiting visit to Flyerland. You gotta figure the kid is gonna have some down-time somewhere along the way and will be looking for something to read to pass the time. “From the Swamp” is there with all the links a growing (in reputation) hoopster needs:

-- I hate to be the bearer of not-so-great news, Scooch, but NorthStar Basketball just released their Top 150 for the Class of 2013 and you ain’t on it:

If it’s any consolation, your future Flyer teammate (should you choose to sign with UD) Kyle Davis, as well as fellow Dayton recruiting targets Vincent Hunter, Jamel Artis, EC Matthews, Nigel Hayes and Bo Ziegler are on their list.

-- Speaking of Hunter, here is some Q&A with the Detroit product:

-- And here is some video of Bo Ziegler taking off from near the foul line to dunk:

--And according to this OSU recruiting rundown from The Columbus Dispatch, Nigel Hayes plans to do what you are doing right now, Scooch -- take an official visit to the University of Dayton campus:

-- Another kid that UD has looked at over the last few years is Romulus (MI) HS SF Leo Edwards. Here is his summer highlight reel:

-- It always pays to think ahead and Coach Miller is on the lookout for Class of 2014 talent like Franklin (OH) native Vincent Edwards, who just got an offer from Michigan:

-- You may not know it, Scooch, but every year the NCAA Tournament starts right here at UD Arena with “The First Four.” The bustling metropolis of Grand Rapids, MI is trying to snatch the games away from Dayton:

Not. Gonna. Happen.

-- One of the best HS hoops tournaments in the country is held right there in Dayton -- The Good Samaritan Flyin’ to the Hoop Invitational. Here is this year’s schedule:

-- Ken Pomeroy blogs about “The Game That Nobody Remembers” aka the 1972 Olympic final between the USA and USSR:

-- Several upcoming Flyer opponents have lost key players for the season. The most obvious was Xavier’s Myles Davis, who along with Sam Cassell, Jr. attended my alma mater Notre Dame Prep in Fitchburg, MA and was declared ineligible for taking a class that several other D-1 players took without any issues:

And Sam Cassell, SR. ain’t too happy about it:

Also suffering key losses were:

Scratch EC Matthews...he committed to URI this afternoon, so UD will be seeing him for the next 4 years.
