Alabama Afterglow

BEVERLY HILLS (MI) -- As the Flyers bask in the glow of their road victory in Tuscaloosa, the players got a grand total of 72 hours to savor it until it was time to play UD’s long-time rival, the Miami Redhawks. Archie and the guys might have to focus on the next game, but we fans don’t have to!

-- The highlight of Archie's post-game press conference was his comment on BCS schools:

“That means that they have a football stadium.”

Linky goodness:

-- You had to love the comments of former UA Head Coach Wimp Sanderson during the broadcast of the game. My personal favorite was when he referred to Kevin Dillard as a “booger bear.” I was born in Boston, went to school in Ohio, lived in Pittsburgh and have spent the last 30 years in Michigan. I had absolutely no idea what the heck Wimp was talking about!

Our friends at Urban Dictionary tell us that “booger bear” is, indeed, a southern term which can mean:

1. An imagined monster. similar to the "Boogey Man"(or in the south "Booger
Man") except outdoors.

2. The cause of dog's agitated barking, when no obvious reason presents itself.

3. In a variation of tag, the player (usually a boy) who is "It" hides in the backyard, while the other players (usually girls) lock arms and skip around the house starting from the front yard, singing "Ain't no booger bears out tonight, 'cause Daddy killed them all." The "Booger Bear" then leaps from hiding and chases them.

Alrighty then.

-- RushtheCourt.com checks in on the A-10. UD moved up to #6 in their weekly power ratings, post-Tuscaloosa:

They are also running a poll about which A-10 victory was the strongest to this point. The nominees are:

Butler over UNC in Maui

Dayton over Alabama in Tuscaloosa

Saint Joseph's over Notre Dame in Brooklyn

Saint Louis over Texas A&M in Kansas City

RTC also could have asked: “Which one of these is not like the other three?”

Vote early and vote often!

-- The UA upset put UD right back where they were in Ken Pomeroy’s ratings before the Weber State debacle-- #81:

-- UD was #25 in the non-BCS Top 25 prior to the Alabama game. That should change for the better in next week’s edition:

-- If you haven’t seen the new Men’s basketball interactive media guide, check it out:

Not sure if they even do a print edition of this anymore. There weren’t any in the media room when I came down for the NIU tilt. One unintended side benefit to going digital -- there are no pictures or any mention of Matt Kavanaugh.

-- It just won’t seem the same when UD plays Miami without the irrepressible Charlie Coles on the sidelines.

-- Three A-10 teams (URI, X and SJU) are playing at a slower pace this year, according to Basketball Prospectus:

-- Illinois Prep Bulls Eye warns Chicago Public League teams to watch out for Morgan Park (and UD commit Kyle Davis):

-- Speaking of KD2, here is a video interview with him:

-- You know that ‘conference realignment’ (aka claim jumping money grabs) have entered the realm of the truly stupid when a school switches conference allegiance for the third time in three years!

-- RushtheCourt.com asks “Is WVU this bad or is their 1-3 record a product of scheduling?”

-- Speaking of the Mountaineers, “The Sweet Tweet of the Week” concerns them, courtesy of Rushthecourt.com:

“West Virginia has ordered its mascot to stop using the school's musket (a live weapon not a prop) after he killed a black bear with it.”

Only in West-by-God-Virginia!

That’s it “From the Swamp.”

I don't think the media guide is for sale. I've bought one every year for over 10 years, and last year when I went to buy one I was told they were no longer being printed to to see them on the website. It was not interactive last year, just the pdf.
