Things You Can Learn on Twitter

BEVERLY HILLS (MI) -- You don’t have to be on Twitter to take advantage of it. There are tons of tidbits that can be discovered by simply checking out someone’s Twitter timeline. For example:

-- Our esteemed leader Chris Rieman sent the following tweet to hoop scribes Jay Bilas and Andy Katz of ESPN.com; Mike DeCourcy of The Sporting News; Brian Snow of Scout.com and Jon Rothstein of CBS Sports:

36 first half fouls tonite in Dayton vs Findlay exhibition. In first half.

-- Snow was the first to reply:

THEN TELL THEM NOT TO FOUL. Very simple solution to the problem

The solution ain’t that simple, smart guy. What exactly constitutes a foul in this new day and age, Snow? Rhody’s Head Coach Dan Hurley admits that he sure as hell doesn’t have a clue:

Clearly, the old adage that you should “play defense with your feet and not with your hands” has never been truer than today.

-- Bilas was next to chime in:

Then, the players should stop fouling and play good defense. Fouling isn't good defense, and never has been.

To which Chris replied:

Not feet movement issue here. 70 fouls/96 FTs. Refs encouraged out of control guard play - antithesis of mandates intention.

And The Bilastrator retorted:

I differ. If you can't guard without putting your hands on the dribbler, you can't guard. Pretty simple.

I get the distinct felling that nobody is going to win and we are all going to lose as basketball fans in this argument.

-- UD Assistant Coach Kevin Kuwik lets us all know that today is Larry Hansgen’s birthday:

Happy birthday to our play-by-play announcer @larryhansgen! Best in the business.

-- Larry checks in with his own tweet about the new hand check regulations:

If you like watching free throws, you are going to love the new hand check rule

-- Derrick Docket is Assistant Commissioner of New Media at the Missouri Valley. He recently tweeted this about “The Hometown Coach”:

I love it when @EnthusiAdams hops on the twitter machine.

A check of Mark Adams’ recent tweets reveals the following gems:

If I were king of hoops- Maximum budget $4M/mens basketball program non-profits shouldn't spend more than that. Duke budget? Almost $20M

Last season pre-season Top 25 Power 6 schools played 89% of their non-conference games at home or on a neutral site.

Fascinated by all of the new college basketball rules- I'm less than impressed. How about enforcing the rules we already have?

These new rules in college hoops are going to have unintended consequences. The first will be offensive players causing even more contact.

-- For those of you who just can’t wait, Joe Lunardi recently answered the question on everybody’s mind regarding Bracketology:

This coming Thursday (Nov. 7). Thanks for asking!

-- As you can see from his dialogue with Chris above, Jay Bilas of ESPN.com is an acknowledged master of 140 character communication. The following is an account of a Twitter conversation Bilas had with a reader about his book Toughness:

-- RushTheCourt.com pegs the Atlantic 10 as one of the losers in the most recent plague of conference realignment fever:

-- LaSalle is looking to capitalize on its Sweet Sixteen run from last season:

-- Will Leitch of SportsOnEarth.com has been waiting for a site just like this--it’s a basketball passport that allows you to track all of the NCAA games you have ever attended:

-- Ken Pomeroy has released his pre-season rankings and has UD at #68:

-- Way too old to ever have participated in “Dayton to Daytona” (altho my brother and I did tour the Sunshine State after my freshman year at UD) and I have never heard of Krewella, but she recorded this:

That’s it “From the Swamp.”
