BEVERLY HILLS (MI) -- The Flyers will most assuredly be spending some time “on the bus” getting to/from Olean, NY to visit the
Bonnies of Bob Lanier University this weekend. If you have ever been thru Olean (and I have) you know that you ain’t flying there -- it’s take a plane to Kevin Kuwik’s hometown and ride the Greyhound for an hour and a half.
One of the all-time great bus riding songs is “America” by Simon and Garfunkel. It’s an ode to the lost, searching youth of the late 1960’s, of which I was surely one. The lines that always killed me were:
"Kathy," I said as we boarded a Greyhound in Pittsburgh
"Michigan seems like a dream to me now"
It took me four days to hitchhike from Saginaw
Having done a fair amount of hitchhiking in my day, I know that you could almost walk to the Burgh from Saginaw in 96 hours -- hell, it’s only 370 miles. I routinely made it thumbing my way from UD to exurban Boston in less than 16 hours and that is more than twice the distance.
Anyway, back to the bus.
As members of The
Flyer Faithful, we are at that point in the proceedings where we all have to decide if we are getting on or jumping off the proverbial Red and Blue bus, bandwagon or whatever the hell you want to call it. Some have already taken a leap; most others are here for the duration.
All aboard!
Elsewhere in the world of putting a round ball thru a cylindrical hoop:
-- We are all excited for Flyer great Chris Johnson having his contract picked up for the remainder of the NBA season by the Boston Celtics. As you would expect, nobody is more pleased than CJ himself:

How did CJ get there? Two words: hard work. This excellent piece entitled “Being a Pro” documents that fact:

The Sporting News has Ohio pegged as the #2 college hoops state, right behind Kansas (warning: slide show):

The fact that Ohio has 13 D-1 college basketball programs might have something to do with that lofty ranking.

-- VerbalCommits.com has had 2014 NY bigman Adonis De La Rossa listed on UD’s radar screen for a while now, but it doesn’t appear that the feeling is mutual:
