Toledo 1 Dayton 0
Disappointing performance against a mediocre opponent. No offense to speak of today. Everything that should have taken 1 or 2 touches once again took 4 or 5 and it just slows our attack down to the point where we can never generate a numbers advantage.
Miscue led to Toledo goal which should not have happened -- poor clearance centrally that popped a high ball instead of driven out of harm's way, and 1-2 touches later the ball rolls off the endline for a Toledo CK. You clear that ball as it should and the whole sequence never happens. Its less about defending the header on the CK and more about doing the things that avoid unnecessary CKs to begin with.
Kidd got a straight red with 14min left after getting beat over the top on a long ball. Probably professional foul but also a proper red. From there it was pretty much over. A couple late corners that did not amount to much.
This program is at a point where we can no longer be losing to the Toledos of the world and I suspect the coaching staff feels no different. Toledo will not finish above .500 this year in all likelihood. One of the biggest voids right now is lack of foot skills to dribble past the first defender. When we try we get pick-pocketed too many times. Sheldon is the best at it b/c she can out-leg defenders. Centrally though we gave up the ball way too much. Either errant passes or passes without a purpose.
Really liked what I saw in the Kent State match. Moved off the ball well, spread field well, finished well. The last two matches were a far cry from it. We were fortunate just to beat NKU. Speed of play must get better. Right now its like watching paint dry. We are 3-1, but the schedule gets much harder.
