Cant remember the last time we scored 5 goals in a half. The first half was about what we've seen in the last several weeks: a malaise or lethargic kind of play where we control things but dont take the bull by the horns and really put the other team into a place where they feel like they are about to drown. We got ahead 1-0 at halftime and had significantly more possession but it didnt generate enough in terms of dangerous scoring chances.
Second half was totally different and this was the team we've been waiting to see all season. We put the gas pedal down and pushed forward with pace. Made GW uncomfortable and defending lots of space in retreat. Got more urgent in pushing the ball, pushing the tempo, and getting more numbers into the offense. It was a wave of pressure and we got all kinds of good looks. The goals were just a byproduct of the much better play and even had we not scored, this was the kind of play Ive been wanting to see all year.
We will need this to repeat itself this weekend at Loyola -- this will be a difficult game to win.
