If Tamika didn't have bad luck this year she'd have no luck at all. Shannon brings toughness on the boards - we saw so much improvement from last year simply because she's gotten to play more and then this happened on what seemed like an innocent play rebounding a free throw - was hoping it would just pop back in but alas no. I think if she'll want to come back she'll need an NCAA waiver which I'd think would be granted.

Why would Shannon need a waiver?

She has at minimum two more years of eligibility. But she’s not the type player that will get us back to competing for championships. She was a great hs. Player but that hasn’t translated to success at the Div 1 level. She should consider the portal.

Ok I'm wrong on her eligibility - I do think as a role player (which every team needs) she's valuable even next year she brings experience that they need. Is she a star player no but we certainly saw her value to the team when healthy. Something else to consider, many times people are quick to want the player to transfer - what about the educational opportunity that UD brings - that's invaluable.

I have to add that very smart young woman majoring in Civil Engineering - unless she feels the need to transfer why come out and say she should so do? Nothing wrong in action this year averaging 28 minutes a game 7 PPG and 5 rebounds a game. Remember last year only got into 10 games because of the experienced talent ahead of her.

Bonas recently canned their HC. This is the battle of bottom feeders so we gotta win this game.

UD has a good third quarter led going into the fourth but we've seen this before - couldn't score for five minutes in the fourth, Bonnies hit an off balanced shot to take the lead fifteen seconds left - Bohannon who was scoreless in the second half lost the ball and that was the game Bonnies win 54-53 - Freeman shot well but got no touches in the clutch. AGONY!!! Now 2-8 in games decided in single digits.

That probably goes down as the worst loss in the last 20 years of Dayton WBB. We just got beat by a 3-17 (0-5) team that couldn't score out of the 40s in the last few games and had their head coach get canned.

It's pretty hard to lose to a 3-win team when you hold them to .346% shooting, out-rebound them 51-26, and give up zero 2nd chance points -- but we found another way to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory despite a fair lead in the 4th quarter. How did we manage to lose? We also shot 34%, committed 18 turnovers in a 50-pt pace game against one of the worst teams in the country, and had no execution down the stretch.

I mentioned this in another game thread but we need a 12-14pt lead in the 4th quarter to hang on and win these games because we do not have the poise and experience to weather the critical moments. That was again the case tonight. Inability to protect the basketball cost us late with more unforced turnovers out of nowhere. We also missed a point-blank layup in the final 90 seconds and then turned it over yet again on the final possession. Those are all mistakes losing basketball teams make habits of.

We're just woefully short in the fundamentals department right now. Meek really shouldn't have to devote practice time to chest passes, cutting, catching with both hands, solid dribbling and ball-protection on the bounce, but that's kind of where we are. With the exception of a couple players, most are struggling to compete at a D-I level at the moment.

I feel for Meek. There isnt a thing she can draw up on that whiteboard and fix this short-term. You can create the greatest sets in the world on paper, but when there is no execution and fundamental breakdowns, its largely a lost cause. She's just trying to keep things together with bubble gum and duck tape at the moment.

I can't fault the effort. In most moments I think we're hustling. We pushed the ball tonight to try to generate some easier transition scoring chances, but our brains do not always synch up with our bodies and one is too fast for the other. But when we play halfcourt we're relegated to a lot of 1v1 action because we don't have the natural IQ to make basketball moves off-the-ball to get open, cut, make space for others, draw defenders away, etc. This is what leads to a lot of our guards dribbling into the trees and taking low-percentage shots that get altered/blocked rather than pulling up for the 8-10 footer like Makira Cook.

The close losses feel like we're being slowly stoned to death. I just cant imagine what Meek is thinking in her head given how competitive and elite she was as a basketball player. She's probably thinking she could lace the sneaks up right now and average 15 and 10 out there and give us some help. When things in your own career just seemed so natural and self-evident and you're now coaching players that struggle with the basics of basketball, it cannot be easy for someone like her to digest. It doesn't help that we've been short-handed all season in terms of numbers based on injuries and graduation/defections.

We've got some talented kids on the way, but they can't help the current season and even when they arrive this is going to be a 4-5 year rebuild. We are starting from the same spot Jabir did when he arrived -- the only advantage being Meek has a much better recent Flyer past to recruit with from the Jabir/Shauna years.

No one is pulling for Meek and the program harder than myself.

This is everything I wanted to type last night but was too depressed to do so especially on the heels of UMASS and Sam Breen coming to town. My worry now is keeping the spirit up for the team - seems like a tough task.
