What Do We Really Know About "Mongolian Mike?"

BEVERLY HILLS (MI) -- Earlier this month AG got a commitment from 2022 prospect Enkhiin-Od Sharavjamts (AKA “Mongolian Mike”) a 6' 8'' PG from ISA Academy by way of Mongolia. In typical “FTS” fashion, this immediately begs the question:

What do we really know about “Mongolian Mike?”

One thing we do understand today that we were not aware of yesterday is where the scholarship for Mike was going to come from, since UD had a full complement of 13 players for next year. Lynn Greer III hit the infamous Transfer Portal and poof…instant scholly!

Before we go any further in the proceedings, the matter of Mike’s nickname probably needs to be addressed. In this age of political correctness, some might take offense to calling the young man “Mongolian.” The way I see it Mike has absolutely no qualms about it, as he is extremely proud to be the first hoopster from his native country to earn a D-1 basketball scholarship. If he’s totally cool with it, we should be as well, right?

Okay with that out of the way, let’s dive in:

– His commitment post:

– Here is Mike’s Verbal Commits page:

– This is his profile from 247 Sports:

Here is what they had to say about Mike’s play at a recent tournament:

First time seeing Dayton commit Mike Sharavjamts and he did not disappoint. At 6-foot-7, Sharavjamts looked comfortable from the start and played with a ton of confidence against a very good Westtown program. He has guard skills and has the ability to break defenders down off the dribble, bring the ball up, make good reads, get his teammates involved with a good touch and efficiency from three. While they didn't come out with the win, Sharavjamts outplayed his current ranking and is a very good addition for Anthony Grant and the Flyers.

He has a newer one, but there is nothing posted on it as of yet:

– Here is his Twitter account: https://twitter.com/enkhiins

– There is even a Mongolian Mike Fandom page on Facebook:

– Reddit had a thread about Mike’s commitment:

One question that came up in the comments was what name Mike will have on the back of his UD jersey:

I assume he will be putting Enkhiin-Od on his Jersey? In the article they refer to both him and his father as Sharavjamts likely due to a misunderstanding. In Mongolia they don't really have a first/last name structure. You have a single given name (frequently two words) and when clarifying like for a last name it's [Father's Name]'s [Person's name]. But most people try to translate that into first/last name so they call him Enkhiin-Od Michael Sharavjamts. But putting Sharavjamts on his jersey would be a bit odd.

Prep Hoops has him as the #4 ranked 2022 prospect in Ohio:

– Mike’s Hudl page has a metric ton of video from games when he played at Legacy Christian Academy in Xenia:

– The only other official visit that Mike took was to Rutgers. Interesting to read their MB regarding his recruitment and decision:

– Mike’s dad, nicknamed the “Mongolian Shark” was a 7 footer who played for the Harlem Globetrotters (including an appearance at UD Arena) and was profiled in Sports Illustrated back in the day:

– When he was at Prolific Prep in Cali, Mike did an episode of CarPodcast. It’s helpful if you speak Mongolian:

– Dr. Willie and the Flyer Band will have to learn this tune, the Hu Wolf Totem:

– Finally, good news for Flyer fans as they will be able to see our newest recruit and his ASA teammates vs. Link Academy from Missouri at the Premier Health Flyin’ to the Hoop at Trent Arena in Kettering on Friday, January 14th:

That’s it “From the Swamp.”
