A-10 Tourney Updates

It looks like the ladies will be getting a rematch with St. Bonaventure. #6 Lasalle beat #3 Duquesne so they get to play Charlotte. #4 St. B beat Umass 2-0 so UD gets them tomorrow.

I know the Flyers will be ready to play, but hopefully the quick turnaround will sap some of the Bonnies energy tomorrow and help us avenge our only A10 loss. St. B had 8 players play the full 90 in this one and only have 19.5 hours to rest.

Can anyone get the fricking web stream to work. All I get is a black loading screen.

How typical.

Go and click on the video link for the Charlotte Lasalle game. That's how I got it to work.

Its up now. Halftime 0-0.

Dayton had some good possession at times, but nothing super dangerous. Having a hard time linking up in the final third of the field.

SBU looking the most dangerous on counter-attacks. We really need to watch ourselves defensively on the long-ball counter. SBU likes to play it to a mid, one-touch it back to a defender, then punch it over the top.

Overall pretty even first half. We have a little better ball skills I think but SBU making up for it with quickness.

Not many touches or looks for Williams. They are bottling her up pretty good. Someone else may need to punch it on for us.

I think one goal wins this one, folks.

Tucker is bundled up like an Eskimo. Must be pretty frigid.

0-0 after regulation.

Both teams had chances. SBU twice right in front of the near post from point blank range. Just wide. UD with a couple through balls that the GK just barely beat the UD player to. Williams has had a couple terrific touches to free players on a through ball, but otherwise has been tied up with a couple players on her.

1-0 Flyers Win

Mallon with a put back off a Williams shot and rebound - 39 seconds into OT. Karma for Mallon after what happened against SBU during the season.

GOAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAALLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL LLLLLL

Less than 1 minute into OT. Williams with the shot, GK cant keep a solid handle on it, Mallon with the cleanup to the top shelf from 3 yards out over the GK. Tucker actually took Mallon out in the second half because she was not playing well, then brought her back in. It was a good thing.

Wow. Hard to believe it came down to a goal like that, but we'll take it.

Very even match. These two teams are very similar. Amazing what Coach Khettry has done with that program. A year before he took SBU over they couldnt pass the ball back and forth.

Charlotte on Sunday for all the bacon.

Video broadcast said Mallon scored the winner. Official stats say it was Garcia.

One additional note - The match was very even. One has to be very impressed with the job Khettry has done at SBU - previously a perennial bottom feeder.

I gotta go with the official stats. Mallon plays in the back so, it did seem a little kooky. But, that whole sequence of events was downright kooky!

But looking at the stats, the description says #6 put the rebound in and that is Mallon. WTF.

Who cares. VICTORY! A real defensive battle. Just 10 shots overall and 2 corner kicks. I didnt like Giner's yellow from my bedroom berkolounger. Looked like the Bonnie GK and a defender collided together. Also thought Libertin was called for a cheapie on a breakaway in the attacking third when she got behind a defender with the ball and open space. You win some calls, you lose some calls. Id rather be the aggressor and make the zebra blow his whistle. That said, Bonas was pretty physical too and extremely well coached. Their counter attacks scared me.

DeWolfe played pretty well tonight. Really the only holding midfielder we've got that can shield and distribute. Beljan cleaned up some dangerous stuff in the back. Miller was timely. SBU almost scored from long range early in the game but hit the crossbar. Overall I thought we let Bonas counter on us too effectively down the touch lines. Some of that stemmed from giveaways in the middle.

We'll need to be extremely physical with Charlotte. Just take it to them and show who's boss. Last year's final was the first time we ever beat them. They have had good success against us so they will be confident. We've done well in A10 tourneys at URI. This is what the seniors have prepared for all season -- to see whos the Boss Hog in the A10.

I started the video of the Char game in the second half and it worked fine the whole time.
