What a Wonderful World

BEVERLY HILLS (MI) –- Boy, Wednesday was kind of a slow news day, wasn’t it? The Flyers’ prized 2010 recruit announced he is going to attend Oak Hill Academy next year and UD officially extended BG’s contract until the year 2525. Remember that tune from 1969 by Zager and Evans? Anyone? Anyone? Ho hum, other than that, there is not much happening in Flyerland.

-- I’m sure I’m not alone on this: when I first heard that Juwan was headed to Oak Hill, my initial thought was “Wouldn’t it be great if Mark Adams did one of his games on the ESPN family of networks?”

So I emailed Mark:

You should start lobbying now with the powers that be in Bristol for the opportunity to broadcast one of Juwan Staten's games at Oak Hill next season. What a combo: the "Hometown Coach" and the next "Hometown Flyer."

I'm sure Oak Hill will be on but I probably won't. Paul Biancardi does the HS broadcasts. I fill in on rare occasions but they had me concentrate on college last season. Never know though as I am their designated pinch hitter for just about everything hoops related. Great hearing from you Swampy and all my best!

Oh well, I’m willing to bet that Coach Biancardi will have plenty of good things to say about Juwan, UD, BG, etc.

-- Speaking of Juwan’s announcement that he will finish his HS career in Mouth of Wilson, VA, here are three differing viewpoints:

“BG is possibly a cuckold” from The Blackburn Review:

“The University of Dayton may be an afterthought” from JJHuddle.com:

And Juwan and his parents say that he’s “rock solid” for UD:

So, who are you gonna believe? Maybe it’s just me, but I’ll take what’s behind door #3, Bob.

-- What Messrs. Blackburn and Stubbs failed to take into account is that Juwan will have signed his LOI to attend UD before he plays his first basketball game for Oak Hill. BCS coaches can drool all they want when they see him play next year, but he will already have committed to be a Flyer and the free pub Juwan will garner can do nothing but help the Dayton program. I emailed Stubbs and suggested that he shoulda checked with his co-worker (and UD alum) Matt Natali before posting such tripe.

-- Juwan’s not gonna have too much down time for the rest of the summer, according to this blog item on the DDN site from Arch:

-- Gary Parrish from CBS Sportsline weighs in on tOSU walk-on and fellow blogger Mark Titus applying for early entry into the NBA Draft:

-- I love my Flyers, but you won’t see me doing this after a loss:

-- The title of the performance says it all: “Izzo Goes to Broadway”:

-- On what planet did this bozo think he was going to possibly get away with smuggling 14 live exotic birds into the US…in his pants:

-- How about the top 100 movie lines of all time in under 200 seconds? Go!:

-- Where else can you find the trailers for all 6 Star Wars movies in one place? Here:

Notice how the trailers get progressively better (although many question whether the actual movies did). Also included are links to a Star Wars vs. Rush Hour and a Star Wars vs. Clerks mashup that are pretty funny.

-- Did you print out your coupon for a free 2 piece grilled chicken dinner from KFC on Wednesday? Looks like lots of folks did:

I think I’ll wait a few days to use mine.

-- I’ve been there dozens of times calling on the marketing folks at Chrysler and I had no idea that the CTC (Chrysler Tech Center) was designed to be converted into a shopping mall if (more like when) the company goes under:

-- Why is “SNL” still on TV?

-- The Seibu Lions honored former player and current Red Sox Dice-K Matsuzaka by installing bathrooms with electronically warmed toilet seats:

That’s it “From the Swamp.”

Just a note on the KFC deal: predictably, they pulled the offer. Now you have to take your coupon to KFC for a rain check to be redeemed at a later date. Can't blame them...if you do the math $3.99 X a coupla million people is a lot of bucks.
