BEVERLY HILLS (MI) -- The Dayton Flyers make a rare Left Coast appearance when they square off vs. the USC Trojans Sunday evening. While the game is being televised on the PAC 12 Network, good luck finding the tilt on a TV screen east of the Mississippi unless you have Dish Network. Hopefully, this MyP2P site that failed to deliver the goods for the Murray State game will provide a link that works for this contest:

The first time that I recall Dayton making a regular season trip out west during my tenure as a Flyer fan was back in 1971 to face the mighty UCLA Bruins. The game was on national TV and was more or less a rematch of the 1967 NCAA Championship game. Unfortunately, the Flyers left their game back on the banks of the Miami and got totally blasted, 106-82.

Let’s hope for a better showing this time!

-- Speaking of the Murray State victory, here is a link to a game recap from The Mid-Majority. Since I am old enuf to remember that game back in 1971 and the title of this piece is taken from a Mamas & the Papas tune from the ‘60s, that also means that I am about 40 years too old to get a single one of the author’s musical references:

-- Both UD Chicago-area recruits, Kendall Pollard of Simeon HS and Kyle Davis of Morgan Park HS, have been in action this week playing in holiday tournaments. You can follow their games here on The Chicago Sun-Times Cube site that features live streaming:

-- A look at the Simeon HS future schedule indicates that Flyer fans should mark the date of January 16th on their calendars, as that is when Kendall Pollard and Kyle Davis and their respective teammates will face off against each other in a game slated to start at 5:30 PM EST:

-- Luke Winn from Sports Illustrated provides us with his hoops predictions for the New Year, including the outcome of the A-10/Big Priest marriage of convenience:

-- Speaking of conference realignment, The Los Angeles Times provides a handy dandy storyboard that depicts all of the football team defections that have gotten us into this mess:

-- Like most Flyer fans, my opinion of “the school down South” is not the greatest. However, we should all be willing to tip our caps to them for this brilliantly charitable move:

The fact that they ended up losing that game to Wofford made it even better!

-- The end of 2012 also brings “The Headline of the Year” nominees at my favorite news aggregator website, Fark.com. Here are a few of the better ones:
